Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

Hey Bill. Ive had the opportunity to use them with good success. Gave me about the same velocity as a WLR but then again primers arent my main concern with load development. Ive used everthing from BR-2 to 210m to cci200s and havent really seen much difference except maybe 10 to 15fps...not enough to make a flip on accuracy.

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

I use them in 6XC and have seen lower ES and SD than any other primer used. Good shit and cheap. Last time I bought them, they were 18.00 per 100.

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

I have had great success with them. Buy the magnum rather than the regular large rifle as they have the same amount of priming compound but with a harder brass rather than the softer copper cup found with the regular LR.

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

You sure about that?

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

It is either a different metal or thicker, either way I know that it is a tougher cup and therefore less susceptible to flattening, and I know that they both have the same amount of priming coupound. ( I am MOSTLY sure it is brass rather than copper

). Feel free to do a little e-research and you will find my statements echoed.

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

Bill,

I have used the mag. primers for me 338 EDGE. At the time I tried them I also changed the powder weight so I am not sure which one tightend my groups. I did find that they are a harder material and had to re-seat more than one. Not sure but they would seem to help with mulit-fired cases that have stretched the primer pocket by a small amount.

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

I was just asking not challenging , thanks for the info

Primers are now $25-$30.00 / 1000

Bill

Bill- No sweat!

One more thing to keep in mind, the Wolf LR primers (both mag and reg) have an RCH larger diameter than do other LR primers. I have found that cases that go a tad loose in the pockets can still be used for a few more laodings when you use Wolf primers. YMMV!

Thanks I will try to find some
Bill

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

I fired 500 of the Wolf LR Magnum primers this january with great results, no issues. Last summer I fired about 1,000 of the SR magnum with no problems.

Given the size of the primers you may find your hand primers are a little overpowered I ended up going to a K&M hand priming tool which I would recommend to everyone as the feel is great. The only drawback to the K&M tool is that you have to load the primers one at a time, I use a latex glove to handle the primers to keep any oils off of them.

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

I have used about 1300 of them in my 6XC. I have never had a problem with any of them other than as previously stated they require extra force to seat in new brass. I have managed to shoot my smallest group ever with these primers.

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

Not sure how many thousands of the Wolf LR and LRM I have used so far but I have went thru at least a case of each. I started with the LR, but have switched over to LRM exclusively now (well, i have more LR and will burn them up but only buy LRM now) as I was testing them in my Palma loads before heading to the Canadian Nationals last year and discovered that my ES dropped some when i switched to the LRM. Same load, but it dropped my velocity a few fps, but everything else the same and a better ES. Still at 2975fps so I was good to go. Accuracy? Well, I finished 3rd overall up there, so yeah, I think they performed pretty well.

I will continue to use the Wolfs as long as the price stays reasonable, but if they jack it up, I wont hesitate to go back to Fed 210Ms, which I still have a bunch of. They are good too.

The LR and LRM have the same primer compound and cup material but the LRM has a thicker cup. the SR and SRM are different creatures both in compound and cup material. So I just stick with magnums across the board with the Wolfs...seems to work just fine.

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

i have used many thousands of them. there are a lot of benchrest shooters saying good things about the wolfs so they do work. they are definitely oversized and i have broken 8-10 of the arms on my lee priming tools thanks to these primers. i just bought the rcbs bench tool and set it up today. primed 20 cases with ease. i would suggest a robust priming tool with these primers. i have over 10,000 left in both small and large magnum. i will continue to use the wolfs as long as they are cheaper than the rest. if the price increases much i will go back to winchester.

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

Hi Bill,
I'm using them in .308 with 175 grain match kings and 180 grain game kings.
I've used Reloader 15 and IMR 4064, no issues.
Accuracy is good.

Have fun,
Kev

Re: Wolf Large Rifle primers? anyone use them?

Another match primer, basically similar in all important respects. I wouldn't go out of my way to obtain them if the more customery ones were available.
