Just wondering if anyone uses wood stocks anymore on their precision rifles? I always loved the wood stocked Remington 700 PSS.... looked great!

I'm building a laminated wood folder for the barreled action I have at the smiths right now. I would be concerned about warping and weather changes with a stick of solid something, but I think laminated hardwood is just as stable as anything else when finished and sealed properly.

I saw someone shooting a woodstock at TPRC last January. It was really sweet looking. If you bed the entire action, float the barrel and seal the stock good, there shouldn't be any cause for concern regarding stock warping. For how good it looks, it's worth it. But it's a crime to scrape it on the barricade stages.

This is what I have been shooting for the last two years.

I really like the solid feeling I get from the wood stock, it feels like it takes out all the vibration.

It's a bit of a shame that so many people overlook the laminates, especially when on a budget. They're extremely durable.

I enjoy the look of a nice piece of walnut as much as the next guy, but I've broken too many walnut stocks to have the desire to own any more of them.

I agree, I really like the laminate stocks, they feel solid and when you ding them up just resend and recoat with clear coat. I think. I have had four or five Russo stocks and when I think I will get a manners or McMillan I shoot one and always reorder another laminate. With the composite I always feel the vibration after the shot, the wood just soaks it up!
