I hope this isn't a stupid question. I've asked a couple guys, but thought this forum would be an excellent place!
Here goes......
When you purchase a new gun, or lower AR recievers, when doing the background check/papers, is that weapon automatically "REGISTERED"? Just really curious. I'm thinking, after the next big "event", "they're" comming for assault type weapons.

No, they do not know what type of gun. They only know that "you are buying a gun" . The FFL keeps the record of what gun, serial #, and your personal info. The only way the govt would know is if the ATF came in for inspection and asked to see if (then your ffl complied with that request), or if your ffl was presented with a subpoena signed by a judge. This isn't a guess, this is fact.

Now that doesn't mean that various Gov agencies don't have ways of looking at your communication, online viewing, pics posted, ect... and figuring out what they can from that (and they can see every single thing that goes across any device, IF they are looking for it). Of course that's not the same as the question that you asked.

Now, by "Registered" are you referring to some state requirement to register a particular type of weapon with YOUR State? If required at the state level your purchase is likely "Registered" at the cash resister.

Federally, No. The NICS is not allowed to keep records. The ATF would have to go to the FFL to get a copy of the form 4473 as they are only stored with the FFL. Then, you are not required to keep records, so there is no way for them to know if you decided the product was not for you and sold it. These protections where placed in the original laws for a reason and there is a reason they are frequently assaulted by the anti-2A groups.

State laws vary. There are also some purchase situations that trigger information to be sent to the ATF. These are things like buying more than two handguns from the same dealer, in a week, in a boarder state. This is to try to identify straw purchasers, however the ATF has shown itself to be incompetent at using the information to any good effect.

If that be the case, how do you think Joe and the hoe would attempt to take 'People's' guns ? if they are gonna try how are they gonna do it. Knock door to door and assume there's a firearm in every home ?

There are a few ways it could be done, most being labor intensive and messy. The most likely is the same pattern Trump test piloted with his bump stock ban.

Even if Trump and his appointees have been overseeing the violation of federal statues to maintain a registry (very unlikely), the legality of private transfers and the lack of a requirement to report a lost weapon effectively makes any such registry incomplete at best.

The feds know you bought something.

The FFL has the record of what that something is.

Once upon a time the FFL records were on slips of tissue paper in MA.

Now they are a computer generated form. Where does that computer form generate from and store?

Local FFL had his shop flooded by a 500 year flood.

ATF came to inspect and all he had to show them were boxes of mush.

I think that would be typical of "the record".
