I am about to acquire a secondhand NightForce NXS 5.5-22x56mm w/ Mil-dot reticle and MOA adjustments. I was looking at NightForce's website and see that they will replace the reticle on a SFP optic (which I believe this optic is, please correct me if I am wrong and it is a FFP optic) for $250 or they can swap out the adjustments to Mil and add zero stops for $320. So, the difference is negligent either way.

So, the question for you professionals is: Is it worth the extra money to not have to make any additional calculations by having the reticle and adjustments match?

Secondly, if I do decide to send it back, should I change the reticle over to MOA (NP-R1 or NP-R2) or should I have the adjustments changed over to MIL and add zero stops?

For-what-it's-worth, I will not be using this tactically. It will be going on a custom built .223 bolt gun for punching paper and hunting w/ my Gemtech Supressor.

Re: Worth the Money to Retro-fit?

I like the matching reticle/turrets. It saves one calculation step. The npr reticles are faster than mil. @ the last LE sniper comp I saw, the new reticles were much faster.

NF will be able to add the zero stop to a retro fit around may. Good luck

Target07,

If you not doing tactical comps, you should be able to use a mixed MIL/MOA quite well. MIL/MOA has been used successfully for years. MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA, is better, but the old way still works. But it's your money.

GrimmRoper,

NPR reticles are "Faster" than MIL reticles? Really, would you care to expound on that factoid. It boogles my mind to think that a MOA/MOA system is any faster or better than a MIL/MIL system.

With equal training of the user, the differences should be negligible, or no difference. Perhaps it is just a training issue? Tell us more.....

Kinda my original thought process also. It may save some time in a tactical AOR but for range and hunting it should suffice as-is. Thanks for the input.
