Just getting to precision rifle shooting. I bought a Rem 700 5r .308. I know the stock is ok for now. And eventually I will upgrade. But for now would bedding the stock improve accuracy?

I'm just getting my rifle together. I will get my scope rings and base at the end of the month. I was thinking until then have the stock bedded. So I haven't shot it yet.

I have skim bedded many a HS Precision and B&C stock and I have yet to have one shoot worse... If accuracy doesn’t improve, consistency has... but it is rare the two don’t go hand in hand.

Before bedding your stock try alternating the torque settings to see what effect that has on the accuracy, you might be surprised. Take a look at this post:

When I had my AAC-SD in a BC stock it was interesting to see how the accuracy changed while experimenting with different torque settings. At 65 in/lbs the accuracy was pathetic but as I was trying out different settings I settled on 57 in/lbs and got accuracy in the .6 to .7 range with M118LR.

I bed all of my rifle stocks and add pillars. I figure it dont cost much and it helps to remove some variables. I have never had one shoot any worse when finished. But that is just my. 02
