Maggie’s wrong diner

Re: wrong diner

Anytime you see someone draw a gun, in any show, or commercial, how come when pistols are always drawn, they have to add the sound of a hammer cocking (on weapons with no hammer and/or safety)?

Two schools of thought: one, because they depend, for dramatic effect, upon the audio clue immediately before the shift in camera from perp to the faces of the assembled cops, or two, the damned director is clueless and doesn't respect the astuteness of the target audience. Take your pick.
