I recently bought a barrett m107a1 with a bors atop a schmidt and the store misplaced the cord. No biggie I can find that. They also misplaced the software. I looking to either buy or borrow or locate the bors software. I honestly planned to remove the bors but have decided to give it a try

I used one for a while on an MRAD in 338 its a pretty cool system and definitely works good if you do your part putting the data in like any ballistics calculator. I would call Barrett and ask them they still support the product and should be able to get you one - I got a product box without software two years ago and they sent me the software

Is the program limited.as in can 1 put custom loads in it? Does it have input for powder temp difference from say 95 to 35 degrees? As I have a kestrel with ab. Lica HD-b that essentially do the same with the ballistics program. I guess I'm asking is the program lacking and if it is is it really worth fooling with thank you

Good day all,

I was in the same boat, with the 1.5 version of the BORS system. I did call Barrett and was able to purchase a 1.5 version of the software with cable (based on the serial number on the BROS) I have attempted to install and connect the BORS - on a windows 7 pro PC and the software opens and everything looks and works great until I connect the BORS - I keep getting unable to get version and battery status and I'm unable to upload or download the library???? If anyone has any ideas please let me know. And, if you're still looking for the software - I can send you a copy of the CD I purchased from Barrett. TC

I know this is late to the game, but does anyone have the software they could send my way? And further, I will purchase for above value the USB cable if anyone has one lying around.

I went looking. But was unable to locate anything by name. I know it’s an 8pin to USB rs232 cable, but the pin out is specific/proprietary. If you ever chat with your buddy, I would be very grateful to learn anything he may have to share.

I’m in the same boat as you. Ever find a cable or software download? Please let me know if you do.
Thanks!!

I’ve got you. When I get back to my home office tonight I’ll shoot you a copy. What’s your email?

I ordered the most recent release (CD) and cable from Barrett. It's very picking as far as installing it, and I have not been able to get it to run in windows 11. it's too large to send over email, but if you'd like to give me a call - we can figure something out. Tony - 802-779-5108

To those searching for the cable:
BORS P/N 66998 and should be at Rev A or later. When you know, you know.
Barrett seemingly has no stock and since they EOL'd BORS, they have no plans to restock.
Also, their repair or exchange service for this part is nonexistent.
See attached. More info & limited help available. PMs open.

New version BORS Data Link Cable to be released within days.
BORS 66998R2
Slightly different cable design that incorporates a robust data conversion module which is encapsulated within an inline interface box to provide IP-68 Rated Compliance Protection Class along with a Ferrite Choke on the USB side and fully Shielded Comms to the BORS unit.

So will these be available for purchase separate from the actual BORS units? I thought Barrett no longer supported the system.

Yes, they'll be available for purchase...just the cable assembly, nothing else...and not from Barrett. The 66998R2 part number is for reference only, and has nothing to do with Barrett. It is issued to differentiate the older model cable (P/N 66998RA) from this soon to be available cable assembly.

FYI:
(As stated earlier) Barrett, admittedly has EOL'd the complete BORS line, and currently has no interest in engaging either spare parts or service of any BORS related items.

There are a few cables on Amazon&Ebay that, like the ones WE used to make, were specific for use on Ultra High Speed Cameras, but they were just straight-thru cables terminating with flying leads at one end... no USB, and no conversion. Other offerings have the USB and Converter, but the closest match terminate to DIN8 connectors, which won't do for BORS. As of today (date of post), Amazon&Ebay have no listing for the BORS Data Link cable.

Thanks for the input.

Also, word is that the **new version** cable has just past it's last operational test, and should be available for purchase as early as tonight/tomorrow. We'll post the link when we've been given the green light.

Alright. Ordered the cable and just received it today. Appears to be constructed well, and the BORS is getting power though it as it shows a P over the battery icon on the LCD screen. However, I cannot get the Barrett software to talk through the cable. I've been trying the FTDI drivers but those don't seem to be working so I'll try some prolific ones next. Any possibility of getting the drivers used to test the cable or any information about what chip is being used here so I can source the correct drivers?

Thank TopTeerPrecision. He hooked me up with it. Honestly I'm on the hunt for any older versions of the software, I finally have a cable for the BORS only for it not to communicate correctly with the version of the software that I have.

Since I saw FTDI being mentioned did you try adjusting the COM port in device manager?

I've attempted to change settings around for the COM port, but I'm no software engineer and I have no documentation. I'd also love to get my hands on any manuals or guides on the BORS. I've looked at a COM port monitor, and all the software can get out of my BORS is the Firmware version, and it fails the initial "status..." check in from the Ballistic Software.

Let's correct that please. The cable works perfectly/correctly. You confirmed that yourself in that information was retrieved from the the BORS unit. This established confirmation of 2-way comms. It was also explained to you that your BORS firmware was to old for the new version(s) of the Barrett Ballistic Software you're running and that the older version the software is most probably what you need. It's not a Driver issue, and it's not a Cable issue.

Let's try this again.... It's a known fact that BBS (Barrett BORS Software) V2.0.0.26 is said to require F/W V1.5.0 which in all likelihood would mean that your F/W is not up to date to use BBS V2.0.0.26, let alone use V2.1.0.3. Your firmware pre-dates V1.5.0. Your options are 1 of 2. 1) Find a copy of the firmware at V1.5.0 or above for your BORS and update your firmware (for which you'll need another software tool from Barrett, which they most likly can't or won't give you), or 2) ask the members of this forum for a copy of BBS at a lower version than V2.0.0.26. Let's try the easiest option first....if anyone has a copy of BBS software Version 1.x, can you please post a copy or a link. Thanks in advance.

@bullz-aye This is not an attack on the cable, and I don't really appreciate your aggression with regards to it working correctly. That sentence was meant to read that the BORS doesn't communicate with the BBS, which is exactly what was established over email.

I'm fairly certain I understand that I need a different firmware, software or some combination of the two. That isn't rocket science after checking functionality of the cable. This is a forum, I'm posting what I'm trying and getting others inputs. You stating "It's a known fact that BBS (Barrett BORS Software) V2.0.0.26 is said to require F/W V1.5.0" is something I absolutely did not know prior to our tedious, passive-aggressive email chain (not to mention using "known fact" and "said to require" in the same breath is ironic at best). I have next to no documentation and there seems to be next to nothing to search for on the wider web or in any forums.

As it seems to be nigh on impossible to find older versions of the BBS software, to the point that I can't find a 2.0.0.26 copy, much less a 1.x.x version. You proposing I I'm simply asking most of the same questions I asked you, but in a public forum where others can contribute what they know.
