What are your thoughts on this unit in comparison to any other you may have experienced?
I grew up on the bae UTC and I'm frankly floored by how far thermals have come. It's a bit bulkier and heavier than others on the market but it's fully 6016 aluminum and hardcoat anodized and a friend has run his on .50 cals with no zero loss, so i think the rugged construction more than makes up for what you give up in weight savings.

My favorite part is the internal "nuke" or sensor recalibrate. Instead of having to put the lens cap on and go into a calibrate menu to clense image burn in you just tap the power button and a half second later you have a clear image.

Beyond that, it's got the ability to record either to the optic itself or to your phone (it works best with iphone), something like 12 color pallettes, and a hotspot detect feature that targets the hottest spot in the field of view (that drains the battery quickly though).

Overall I love it, but don't do any coyote hunting anymore so I'm trying to free up some funds for other projects.

How's the battery life. Does the hot spot drain it significantly fast? I have a friend with the 384 version and it doesn't go beyond 2 hours with the hot spot enabled.

Battery life is better than the 384 version as it's a slightly bigger battery, but the hot-spot detect DOES drain it more quickly. An improvement on the 640 version is that it takes external battery power thru a USB-C plug. What I've done is mount a spare power bank in a scope ring on the pic rail. Once the battery gets low enough i swap out power sources. Spare battery and mount is included.
