Xlr chassis system. Tell me your thoughts
I had the original XLR and actually had many issues with it...
The XLR was amazing when I first got it but, the handguard felt "off" and there was some play...Not much but, there was some. -- In the grand scheme of things I know it doesn't matter because the action --> Barrel are all that matters but, on a $900 chassis, this was an issue.
Kyle is an amazing CS person...WHEN and IF you can get a-hold of him. I called, emailed up to wazoo, the only time I actually got a response from Kyle was when I bitched HERE in the thread.
I sent the rifle to Kyle's FFL (A bit of a fiasco but, Kyle came through) and tt first I thought it was my barrel being off, which was partially true (Kyle identified this and placed sole blame on this), Savage had kinked the barrel from factory (Was off 5*) -- However, when the rifle was returned and my new McGowan came (Also had the receiver trued in this window), it just became clear how badly the handguard was actually off. -- I'm not talking canted 90* high or low -- I'm talking pivoted hard right, practically hitting the handguard.
After complaining here again -- Kyle sent a new handguard...I sent the old one back -- Put it on and it was STILL canted.
At this point it became obvious it was the chassis itself. I emailed Kyle again, called again, no answer -- Complained here and I had a phone call offering a new chassis.
Got the new chassis and the cant was mostly gone but, by this time I had just had enough of the situation so, I sold it on the hide with the information that the handguard was slightly off.
The gentleman that bought it, I believed lapped it, which completely solved the issue.
Again -- Kyle's CS is AMAZING, when you can get a hold of him (hopefully this has become a non-issue) but, I thought I'd share my story.
I went with McCree -- They treated me incredibly well and low and behold when I dropped the barreled action in -- PERFECT. - I can't say that for the XLR.
I understand now, on the XLR that's been addressed with the handguard shape but, it was kind of a nightmare for 2-3 months trying to figure out what was wrong!
