Does anyone know what the XM24A1 is all about? I saw somewhere that it was just a test example early on in 300winmag. I know the Army is looking to do the 300winmag thing with a new stock(AICS?) but supposedly the XM24A1 was something done much earlier for testing. Can anyone clarify specifically if anything was different beyond the caliber change? Did it have a Box mag, different barrel length or manufacture, different stock etc.?

Also did Israel order the same M24 from Remington as the US Army? Or did they spec diferent things? I've seen pics IDF M24s with a muzzlebreak, but I don't know if that is just a modification by the IDF or a custom builder, or if they ordered them that way from Remington. The muzzlebreak is not the slip on type flash hider seen on some US Army M24s. It looks like something I've seen from Redick Arms.

Re: XM24A1

The M24 was originally speced with a Vortex flash suppressor, IIRC. None were actually issued that was AFAIK, though. I've never seen one with a muzzle brake on it.

I'm not at all familiar with the XM24A1. I do know that the original intent was to be able to select either 7.62 or .300 Win Mag, as dictated by the mission. Once again, that idea has lain dormant until very recently. I'm certain that there is a warehouse somewhere full of Remington magnum bolts and .300 Win Mag Rock Creek 5R barrels. hopefully well protected from rust!

Re: XM24A1

Cool thanks guys! From what I heard the Army is thinking about getting the guns into AICS? Actually I think Rangers already have those unless theirs are actually Mk13mod5s or something. A 300mag in an AICS, not much diff at that point be it a MK13 or an M24. The military should just simplify for both branches and call it the moduler SWS! Well I guess a huge diff lies in the two barrels one being 5R and the other being a standard, riflling, dif profile to I guess.

Ray, do you know if the Israelis use m118 ammo or 168gr match? I don't know why but I think I read somewhere that they went with something more accurate than the m118, but I could be wrong.
