Gunsmithing Xmark Pro Question

I just bought a new rem sps tactical in 223. It has the xmark pro with the external screw.

I was adjusting it to get the lightest pull possible and the screw came completely out with very little force. Even with the screw completely removed it breaks at just under 4lbs. It feels ok.

Eventually I'll likely replace it, but for now I'm wondering if there's any reason to put the screw back in? Are there any safety issues having it removed? I also hate the feel of the screw against my finger.

I'm definitely not a fan of this design.

Re: Xmark Pro Question

I hear ya. I've just been dumping too much money into guns lately and gotta call it quits at some point..:)

I'm sure I'll upgrade it within a few months, but for now I'm wondering if my "screwless" xmark will be ok or if I should put it back in.

It doesn't seem too affect creep or overtravel one way or the other. Just don't want it to do something goofy at the range.

Re: Xmark Pro Question

Its fine without the screw. Also Google xmark pro adjustments and get the how to, there are other screws that can be tinkered with but only one that realy is needed to get it down to say about 2.5 pounds. Just be sure to check function of safty and no possibility of slam fires and you'll be good to go.

Re: Xmark Pro Question

from my memory, the external adjustable X-Mark pro still employs the standard trigger reset spring (versus replacing it like an old style 40x trigger), so the external adjustment is an additional adjustment and you will be ok without it. I will look at one tomorrow to verify this, but if you are familiar with the non-external adjust version, you should be able to see if the screw that is used to adjust the trigger reset and trigger pull weight is present. If that screw is there, you can adjust it down as well to lighten the overall trigger pull...

Re: Xmark Pro Question

The bottom screw is the home owner adjustment. It does not give much change, and you can take it out without any problem. It still needs a real trigger job with the other three screws inside the stock area.

Re: Xmark Pro Question

Here are a couple pictures to show what I am talking about. The trigger is broken, but still shows the two different weight of pull adjustments. If you do adjust the screw shown in the 2nd picture, then make sure it still has enough pressure to reset the trigger. Also make sure to do a function test.

In my opinion instead of an externally adjustable weight of pull (how many people are regularly adjusting the pull weight on their triggers??), they should make this an over-travel stop. Anyway, here are the pics:

This pictures shows the external adjustment screw, it also demonstrates a weak spot in the MIM trigger shoe:

This picture shows the actual trigger reset and pull weight screw, this can be adjusted down, just function test and re-seal:

Re: Xmark Pro Question

On my 700 5R the x mark pro adjusted to 2lb 4 oz measured on a lyman pull gauge. I checked it about 50 times, and it passed the safety checks. That was 1 turn out from factory setting.

It remains to be seen if it will remain consistent; I've read that some will drift after use. As it is now, no creep and crisp break. I should also mention it's unfired, so it may change.

I've read that it's luck of the draw, some will work fine and some won't at lower pulls. I like the wider shoe but agree about the screw protrusion. Just have to see if it remains consistent.
