Upgrading from a PST GEN 2 5-25x50.

Looking at at XTR III 5.5-30x56 ($1200) or a Razor gen 2 4.5-27x56 ($2400).

Those are “new prices”. Haven’t seen too much info on the xtr 3, but that is half the price of the razor.

Gun is a origin SA, 223 rem, 24” proof in a mpa comp chassis.

Is the razor worth the extra money? Or will the Burris get it done. I don’t wanna cheap out, but that’s a big price difference. I realize I can always buy used as well.

The honest to God answer here is that these two optics are so close in quality, that only real difference is price.

The razor G2 is popular due to the company's size and it was a good scope. Is it another ~$1000 better than the XTR3? I didnt think so.

The G3's were selling for $2500 so if you are set on the vortex, should be able to find a G2 much cheaper than $2400.

If you are considering that kind of money, check out the XTR Pro.

The glass on that XTR3 is awesome for the $. If it has the pyramid shaped turret knurling... be prepared to cover the knobs with neoprene or rubber because they are sharp.

For $2400, get the G3 Razor; the G2 should be much much cheaper than $2.4k

Remember to sell the PSTG2 after as well

Sorry I had a typo, the G2 brand new is about $2k.

The Burris xtr3 5.5-30 is just under $1200 brand new (it is the illuminated model).

Kind of hard to justify the razor for that much of a price difference, provides the xtr tracks well. I haven’t heard anything bad about it.

Buy the gen 2 used if any issue send it in to vortex. That should save you some cash I picked two up recently used for around $1500. But I do plan on trying the xtr3i on my next scope for hunting rifle.

I have 2 xtr3’s, the original US made ones and just received my xtr pro. My shooting buddy and my brother in law have the gen 2 razors. I personally prefer the glass on the xtr3’s but it’s very close. I also prefer the reticle, capped windage and non locking elevation of the Burris. And to cap all that off it’s way cheaper, same type warranty and you don’t hear of them failing or having issues.

Give the Burris a try if you don’t like it you can sell it but I really doubt you will not like it.

The reason you see the Vortex Razor G2 more is because it’s been around for a long time now. Burris XTR3i illuminated models are just starting to get out in the wild. Some folks that were comparing the two probably didn’t want to jump to Burris three years ago because they only offered non-illuminated models for the first three years. I think now the Burris XTR3i line is a better overall buy for your money compared to the Razor G2. The VG3 vs BPro is probably more reticle and turret user preference.

Iv owned both of the xtr iii. Sold one with a rifle and the other one is on top of my mk12 “type” of build. I have owned pst’s not the razor. I love the xtr and the scr2 reticle. Vortex has sold a shit ton of the razors but Iv heard to many of the problems. And some very good friends I have that are ranked shooters have had to many personal problems. And I take there advice like gospel when it comes to guns and shooting. The mag ring is stiff on the xtr but it’s just fine with a throw lever. And Iv never heard of so many men with the amount of soft hands before in my life talking about the turrets lol. My wife can spin it no problem no complaints.

The Vortex with the JM reticle is probably the easiest, most intrinsically easy reticle to use. Zero it at 200 yards and the BDC is basically right on within an inch or two out to 600 yards with most loads used in 3-gun. The clarity is second to none and it is built tank strong. With a lifetime warranty that rivals Dillon's you can't go wrong. Clarity is worth a few X in my book!
he's not talking lpvo or 200y zero or 3 gun AR
