well. i don't see anything unusual there. high deer numbers, low initial wolf numbers. the classic 'carnivor/herbivor' evolution. wolf numbers go up, deer numbers go down ... and the whole thing will invert again.

they talk about 5-10 years, which is ... about two generations for elk, about 3-4 generations for wolves. not sure whether that's any interesting timescale to make predictions.

we do tend to have alot of deer in our area, and yes - we have neither wolves, bear or other notable predators. on the other hand, if hunters wouldn't feed them during winter time (to reduce the damage done to trees as they would start to eat bark), estimations are rather high on the number of animals that would starve in winter ...

regardless of whom you talk to, there will be someone else who wants it differently.
