Ohio, Huron (camp in Coshocton)
Went today and had a blast.
Dogs had some great runs, and we had at least four sightings.
No shots, but it's called huntin, not getin.

If you ever get the chance just do it.

Kinda like coon hunting, only in the day, and they run farther.

I'll try to get some pics up, but going in the morning again.

Re: Yotes with dogs, Anybody?

Sounds like fun.

Yotes after my dog is an ongoing problem here. Just a few minutes ago a yote came down to my burn pile, was 50 freakin feet away, and got the dog to chase him. I wasn't armed, who is standing around a bonfire in the backyard??, so I hauled ass after them on my four wheeler and got the dog back. Four other times they have lured the dog out by using one as bait with more waiting. Twice I successfully intervened with a rifle.

Even if your dogs are not trained "coyote hunting" dogs, they work great as decoys. When you're calling and the coyote sees your dog, he will forget about you being there and be 100% focused on your dog. I had a young one come in within 6 feet of me once and try to play grabass with my dog.

Coyotes stay away from our place on account of the mules. I may get to call some in away on the other side across the swamp but anywhere close to the pasture they will not come around. We watched real close early in the spring during calving and they will not come around. I think the mules have them scared.

A cousin has several mules and the yotes go around the pasture they are in. Of course after the mules worked over a couple of them they got at least a little smart. Some of the neighbors dogs however just don't wise up, or their owners.

When i was a kid on the farm saw a strange dog go after the mule.Pete played it just right and kicked that dog into the next county, grave yard dead. Put his snot locker in the back of his head, he was dead before he hit the ground. MM
