Been doing quite a bit of 100+yd rimfire shooting lately and just want to get the experts opinion. Which do you prefer standard velocity or subsonic? I have been shooting standard, but I had a few rounds of subsonic that showed real promise.

And before someone googles this for me, honestly I don't have the time to do a lot of tedious searching.
Thanks

Depends on the rimfire

22lr, sub-sonic match grade.(1050-1080fps mv)

17hmr, 17 gr ballistic tips (2550fps mv)

22wmr, 30 gr vmax (2200fps mv)

Sub-sonic. All day, every day.

That is just the tip of the ice berg though. Next you have to try out every "match" round you can get your hands on to see which fodder your beast likes to eat.

Eley, Lapua, RWS, Wolf (if you're REALLY lucky), CCI, etc...

There are a bunch of threads on here about choosing ammo including a chart my boy Armorpl8dChkn posted somewhere showing which ammo variants have the same lube so thorough cleaning between different ammo selections is not necessary. Different lube? Clean it well and then take 20 or so shots to re-lube your barrel.

Do you clean with a brush or just solvent?

I clean with brush and solvent. I don't clean as much now as I know that my 40XB likes RWS R-30 so I clean about every brick (500 rounds) as that is where the groups start to open up.

Get a bore guide and use a GOOD rod.
