I have a little Zastava .22lr that I bought for $300AUD and am looking at making some modifications to it in order to improve the looks and ergonomics so I can do a bit better in local bench rest comps.

<EDIT mine is the full size, not youth, but is still tiny to me being 6ft average build>

If anyone is familiar with these rifles, the action, barrel, sights, trigger, mags, are all very strong and well built (think CZ) and put many other brands to shame. I have also won a few little comps locally with it (with lots of surprised faces when they see what I used) so the accuracy potential with good ammo is definitely there. However the stock is very small with a thin forend and is quite limiting as it is very light and whippy and hard to achieve a consistent cheek weld. The other issue is the rear sight forces a scope to be mounted further back or high to clear it, thus raising cheek weld even further (I already currently have what could be described as jaw weld)

I am at a point where I see my only options as either:
- trying to modify the stock in some way to put a raised cheek piece on it and fatten the forend (look like shite probably)
OR
- getting a custom made stock ($$$$$$$)
OR
- trying to make my own stock (look like shite

)

I am not very handy when it comes to wood work or machining and don't know anyone locally who could do said job.
Was hoping to get some good ideas of my options and try and get something going here. Functionality is more important than looks, but I wish to paint the stock at some stage anyway to get some funky colour going on.

I have thought about buying a Marlin, Savage or CZ but I really love this Zastava and the action is very solid and slick, so my preference would be to use it.

Ideas, help, opinions etc all welcome.
Thanks

alot of the CZ stuff should work, i did a bit of researching on them in another thread. for some reason i can't get the google search to work from where i'm at, try zastava Z99, charles daly, even remington model 5, you'll get some good historical stuff if you hit the right thread.

also try CZ99
