Looking into a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 for long range shooting out to 1000 yards and would also like to do some long range competitions. Would be putting this on a Remington 700 308 Win. How would this system perform?

I had a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20.
The glass was great and it tracked perfectly, but on my .308 I ran out of elevation adj. @ 900yd.
That was with a 20 MOA base and 175 matchking at 2600fps.

I have one on a 223 AI shooting 52 gr in a slow twist barrel .I can get to 600 which is about as far as I need for that setup but it does not have enough elevation to get to 1000. Even if it did the wind would blow the bullet to the next county so there is no point in shiming it up to maximize my elevation...Glass seems excellent,and it tracks well.I think they are good scopes for the money.

Excellent news guys, exactly what I am looking for. Right now I have a Nikon Monarch X with tracking issues. Could just be a bad scope out of production, I bought it new in an auction. But even if the Nikon operated optimally, it still only has 50 MOA of adjustment. I have a 20 MOA base so I can stretch to 900 but getting that magic 1000 will be tough. Thanks for the feedback.

I have had similar experience with them. They are very light, have pretty good optics, and focus to 35m (In practice they will do 25 OK) so I use a 4.5-14x for my rimfire. I have also found the tracking to be very good. The range of adjustment is very limited because of the 1" tube though and the Mil-dot is paired with MOA adjustments. Unfortunately, because of these features, the scope is very limited in its tactical operation. From the standpoint of my rimfire I would do sumersults if they would have a mil/mil or moa/moa set up and dial the parallax to 50 ft. The 35 meters is close but some local matches are shot on OSU's 50 foot range.

Not to derail the thread but Would anyone suggest other scopes that may be better the the zeiss and within $300...? I'm looking at the same scope as well just haven't pulled the trigger yet....

You can get the mildot reticle with a 20 moa base and should be fine if you hold over. Theres not enough travel to dial all the elevation needed at 1000 yards

Doing more research and have had some help with others on the forum, thanks guys! The SWFA SS 5-20x50 mil/mil FFP scope is not bad for the price. You can get a non illuminated model for around 12-1300, which for a mil/mil and FFP scope is not bad.
The next step up from the SWFA would be the NF/S&B price range. However I have found the NF to be limited when offering mil/mil and FFP. It is not a necessary feature but with online simulations like the one on shooterready.com I have found range estimation and turret adjustment to be FAR easier.
Another factor I have found is to stay with a mil/mil or moa/moa optic. Makes calculations so much less confusing and above all less time consuming especially with FFP.

Ok thanks. I wasnt looking for turrets on my hunting rifle but your correct. I may look for a illuminated swfa in the for sale section. Maybe a nice bonus if the price is right.

Has anyone looked through both zeiss and the swfa to compare glass? Also which is better at low light? Will the zeiss 6.5-20x56 out perform the Swfa 5-20x50 ? I'm not concerned about the benefit of the swfa's first focal plane for this gun...

Kinda confused here. Are you looking for a long range precision scope for target shooting or just a hunting scope? If you are just looking for something for hunting I'd probably look at the Zeiss conquest line in the 300-500 price range. There are a lot of other scopes in that price range too for hunting. Just clarify what your intended purpose is for the optic!

I'm looking for a hunting scope. I plane to set the zero and then leave it alone. I won't be shooting at long enough distances while hunting to justify turrets. Not to mention I'd be made if they moved and I missed because of them.

Well there is still a lot to consider, like magnification range, BDC or just a plex reticle, objective size. It all depends on how far you plan to take shots and the kind of conditions you'll be shooting in. If you like the Zeiss (I have looked through several and they have very nice glass) I probably wouldn't spend $900-1100 on just a hunting scope. Give it some research into what you plan to do with the optic, there is plenty of information out there.

If you look at some of my posts I made last week I was looking at a BDC reticle for competition shooting. Which if FAR off of what I should have been looking into. There is also a great sticky on here about optic selection at the top of this forum, I'd suggest checking that out. Just find something that fits what you intend to use it for.

They have been running a sale on the 3-9x40's for 399. For a hunting scope that would be perfect in my neck of the woods.

I know that I want atleast 20 power or greater and 50 objective lense or greater to help with low shooting conditions. I like the zeiss 6.5-20x50 but haven't looked through a swfa or allot of the other scopes that may be just as clear as the zeiss. My question was what other scopes look just as good or better and are around the same price as the zeiss scope I just mentioned?... I can read all day online about scopes but it's hard to find some one who carries all these scopes to go look at for myself. I was hoping that someone could give me their opinion that had already looked through the swfa or zeiss or Swarovski ect....

If you are looking for low light hunting scopes swarovski is one of the best i have five but they are pricey a nikon is a good scope for the money i have owned zeiss also but after you look in a swaro you wont want any other.

First post but thought I'd chime in on this. I worked behind the ocptics counter at Cabelas for a few years part time and IN THE STORE I sat the Conquest 6.5-20x50 side by side with a more expensive but comparable Swav and IN THE STORE I was not the only one that personaly thought the clarity on the Zeiss was better. Keep in mind I have no experience with either of the in low light conditions (which I agree is important) but I felt in store light and day light the Zeiss had superior glass, just my opinion.

Ok thank you for your input. Swarovski was in the running but is it worth the 600 or so price increase.....? I know their are better scopes out their but I did want to stay under 1300 for this scope...

i have a zeiss 6.5x20x50 that i use for 1000 yard comp. it does not have the magnification of my sightron s111 8x32 but i can see impact marks on white painted steel @ 20 power that i cant see on 20 with the sightron. that said i havent found a scope in the 900 dollar range to best the zeiss. tracking has never been an issue either
