9mm shooting test, G19, G34, and P365

I hadn’t shot the handguns for awhile and all the Eli Dicken talk got me to wondering, how well can I shoot my three primary 9mms?

So I set up a little test, 10 shots from concealment, back to the target, draw and no more than 3 seconds to shoot the first shot, no more than 10 seconds for the next 9 shots. 15 yards, 20 yards, and 25 yards. 115 grain FMJ but different manufacturers.

G19, 15 yards

10/10 hits, one in the guts, 7 in the chest, two in the throat. Not easy.

20 yards. Two misses left, one in the shoulder at 2 o’clock, 7 pretty good.

25 yards. A gut shot, 5 good ones, and 2 wounds.

Next up, Glock 34.

Thinking about starting to carry optics in our shop

What companies would you pick up?

  • Swarovski

  • Zeiss

  • Steiner

  • Leupold

  • Nightforce

  • Kahles

  • Vortex

Results are only viewable after voting.

I spoke to a couple of European Optics companies and I don't fully understand the profit model, but their minimums aren't very big 5-10 pieces.

Probably get to the point where we have the products that interest us from 2-3 optics companies.

Trump 2024 platform: He has my attention…

Probably just a trial balloon… then again, Orange Man never did that.

Campaign will be based on “Break the Bureaucracy” — a purge of agency and administrative personnel at an epic level.

They are the swamp. Fire 5 million of them… and purge the real problem.

Remember Patco? It’s been done..

More back problems. Anybody had successful fusion?

Back Just before Thanksgiving I had a L4 L5 bilateral laminectomy / micro discectomy due to a herniation and spinal stenosis / bone spurs. It took almost 2 years of dealing with pain during covid getting injections, ablations etc. and fighting with insurance. After surgery and recovery I had about 3 months of pain relief until dropping to a low position at a 22 match. Felt a sharp stabbing pain / pop in my lower back. Returned to the surgeon, had to do steroids, PT etc. for 6 weeks before insurance would allow and mri. Had my MRI on Monday and reviewed with the DR yesterday. The disk at the same level has fully ruptured and is pushing into the nerves agin, worse this time despite the extra room made by the laminectomy. I am now being told the only option I have is to live with the pain / pain management or to have a complete fusion at that level.

For those whom have been here before, I am looking for some 1st hand accounts on fusion. I have read plenty and lots of articles are stating that there is a very limited chance of returning to work if you do heavy labor. I am a diesel mechanic working mainly on medium duty trucks and busses, as well as a small scale gunsmith / machinist on my own time. If I go through with a fusion will I be able to continue working or will I be forced into a new line of work? Starting over at nearly 50yo dosent seem like the best option to me...

What do ya'll have for me???

Ghost Guns/3d printers.......

Not really a "ghost gun" and not really a 3D printer thread, but a little bit of both.

I live in the greater KC area, and just this week we had some shit bag kill a North Kansas City officer, and he actually did use a "ghost gun". This 30+ year old shit stain shot the cop because he did not want to be stopped for a minor traffic offense. The LEO community (that I am a member of) is currently in morning for a fallen brother.

This man child still lived at home with his mother, and had an pretty good 3D printer setup, the lower was 3D printed, so the news got this one correct. Even if they are asking how did he print an entire gun? A few months ago some kid in high school came in shot the SRO (school resource officer) a few others before he was stopped, the news reported him using a "ghost gun" but sorry news you got this wrong, it was a "normal" firearm with the SN# ground off, so just defaced.

At least they are batting 500 in the past few months.

Now we are seeing people raising questions of 3D printers, and wanting to restrict them. I hate to tell you idiots that people have been making guns out of what ever from the day after gun power was discovered, this is nothing new.

Personally I own a 3D printer and I have made some "gun" related thigs for it. A couple boxes to hold long cartridges for working up loads, signs for the range that gives the yardage....stuff along those lines.

I am really looking to flush out my ideas and views on this "ghost gun" thing. On one hand we have the right to keep and bear arms, and I read that just as the words are written, in that context I am very much in the camp that means KEEP AND BEAR ARMS....so there should be no issue with so called "ghost guns", or for that matter a gun with the SN# removed. On the other hand working where I work I know the law just a tad, and think well we do need some restrictions, felons should not have the ability to own arms, I think we can all agree on that, but it does not line up with the letter of the 2A, it says nothing about you being the next Charles Whitman.

So while I think the people looking to "outlaw" 3D printers has a snowballs chance, and I also think that having the "plans" that you can feed into your printer and make your "gun" is not quite right.......just starting to babble.

What are your thoughts and views, part of this is my thinking part of this is the devil's advocate.

It is so tough anymore, people wonder how someone can print a "gun". Well they are not really printing a gun, they are printing a lower.....what is that.....the bottom part of the rifle, so that was it, yup......what about the rest of it, well all the little parts inside and the barrel itself are all made from metal, that is not the gun, nope. Well that is stupid, yea it is thank your .gov for that one. I have another good one for you....see this credit card with little stamps on it.....yea, that is a machine gun.....what, that is just stupid.....I don't disagree, and see this trigger, yea....machine gun as well.....but that is not a gun.....welcome to the club.

I am so glad I am close to retirement, only a few years left. I hope I can make it that long, I really worry for our young guys.

What did I find ?

I will preface this thread by saying these AREN’T for sale , just researching what I found in my stash. Found 500 rounds , no clue when or where I acquired them.
Know they were manufactured by Fabrique National , thinking they are 30.06 ? Have no idea if they are corrosive or non corrosive ? Only 30.06 I own is a Garand in great condition, not going to shoot them through it regardless.
Anyone familiar with these ?

Help me decide which tikka to sell, or keep?!

Got out of 6.5 last year, since i havent shot a match in a while and just narrowed it down to 223 & 308... Got a 223 tikka, 22 tikka, and a 308 tikka.... but I also have an aero precision 16" ar10 in 308........

Picked up a tikka tac a1 in 6.5 today for a deal I couldn't say no to.... Since im invested in AICS mags, I thought about selling my 308, but putting the 308 into the tac chassis and the 6.5 into the krg bravo and keep it for down the road if I want to shoot matches again. But the more I look at it, the more I want to keep them both!! But then I need another scope............. damnit, decisions.

First post and requesting advice of course...

Hello everyone! Greetings from the Bayou!

So I'm a new shooter just getting into dipping my feet into long range target shooting. I'm not a hunter so I'm really just looking at shooting targets with this rifle.

I currently own a Remington 700 AAC SD in .308 (20 in. barrel) that I put in a Bell and Carlson Remington 700 BDL, Varmint/Tactical Style Fully Adjustable stock (no DBM) but I'm not really fond of the recoil much. In fact, I bought this rifle back in 2015, shot it around 20-30 times and went back to my AR's because I just didn't like the recoil on the .308.

So here recently I've decided to get the rifle out of the closet and give it another shot - however I want to put a new 6.5 Creedmoor barrel on it from Criterion to dampen the recoil some or buy a new rifle.

I checked out Northland Shooters Supply and at least by math, a remage barrel and all of the tools to change it out myself would run me about $700. I've built my own AR's with good results, but I've never done anything with a bolt action except to put it in the B&C stock.

I called my local gunsmith, he has a good reputation around these parts and after talking to him, he recommended a remage barrel and also wanted to blueprint the action and "true everything up". He said this would ensure I got the most accuracy possible out of the rifle. His price for putting on the barrel and blueprinting the action etc. was $300-$400. $100 for installing the barrel and $200 for the blueprinting. He said would probably have to do a little work on the stock to accommodate the barrel nut which is why I added an extra $100 to the mix (and for incidentals). So, if I order the barrel from Northland and have him do the work I'm still looking at around the $700 mark and that is without adding a DBM.

Another option, because I've read a lot on this forum about Tikka's and I like what I've read, is to buy a new Tikka T3x CTR for $1k and dropping that in a KRG Bravo and selling my Remington 700 and B&C stock to offset the cost. If I go with the Tikka and KRG bravo I'm looking at around $1400 and I get the ability to use magazines from the get go. Not sure what I could get for the Rem and stock but thinking/hoping that after selling it I could get to somewhere around the same out of pocket expense as my first two options or am I way off base?

What would you guys advise? Thanks in advance for any responses.

John

Cleaning a gas gun?

Greetings,

The day isn't finished until your gas gun is cleaned. Looking for some input.
I couldn't find any posts about gun cleaning... There should be a sticky somewhere on the subject....

solvent and brush -vs- ultrasonic (mainly BCG)
what solvent/cleaner do you use?
show a pic of your favorite cleaning tools!
got a trick for the tough carbon?

Thanks,
Texas Haag
