What do you want out of the next four years?

I was chatting in the super top secret area of the forum, an a topic popped up in my mind. Considering how the past years have gone politically and spiritually. I have decided on one thing I seek out of the next four years. Accountability. If I only have one wish, it’s that. We can all create a laundry list of things that went bad. But to some it up with a remedy or cure. It is that. Accountability. What does the mind bank of the Hide think?

Arken EP5 7- 35 .. Standing in for some Alpha Glass

Over time i have had more than my fair share of expensive Alpha/Top Tier Glass fail ...

Just recently i had 2 current Top Tier optics on 2 of my Desert Tech,s go down. While still waiting for this to be resolved i decided to go the complete other end of the scale...yep....."Cheap" China scope !!!

My dealer here in Aus sent me 2 of the ARKEN EP5 7-35 and said....try to break them!! .................but also give an honest opinion on how they stack up. My dealer knows the Glass i own, and have owned and also the regularity i shoot.

Not really having any high hopes i was pleasantly surprised when the Arken,s showed up..

#1 heavy , externally .....very well built.
#2 expecting the worst..... the glass is quite good ...especially considering the price tag !!
#3 Turrets....very positive .
#4 Tracks great!!

We mounted the 2 on DT 338Lap. 300 Win and the 50BMG.

Today myself and friend fired circa ......"100" 300wm....... "150" 338Lap and "90" rounds of 50BMG ... Both the Arkens went through that session without any glitches what so ever!!!

Focus remained constant , while not Alpha glass they are more than capable of providing a very rewarding experience . Distances we shot at were 1200yds and 1500yds and 1700yds.

The 2 plates "Knocked " over in front of the log are 1200yds...the 50 smacks them down with authority !! The couple of misses onto the log actually penetrated out the rear side....very impressive !!

Are the Arkens the best glass......hell no... BUT !!! They are VERY respectful and i have no problem with using them . They held up to the 50 better than a couple of "ALPHA" scopes ( that shall remain nameless) that shit themselves after a dozen or so shots!!

Truthfully....the hardest thing to overcome is the mind set that these are "Cheap" and "Chinese" ....functionality wise they a very good!!

These will be subjected to a few more sessions over the next weeks...lets see if they hold up...

SWFA ultra-light 2.5-10

I was bumming around looking at light scopes last night. Most stuff that is pretty small is still 15+ oz. Even my Razor LH 2-10 is 15oz and it sports a 56ft min FOV. I went to check out the SWFA ultra-light. Its a 2.5-10 with a weight of 9.5oz and minimum FOV of 46ft. I can't find them in stock, but I back ordered one since they are sale right now.

I haven't seen ultralight mentioned much around here. I would have preferred they put their mil quad reticle in it, but there is a ballistic reticle option for a little more than the duplex. I am surprised that an ultralight hunting scope with a mil based reticle hasn't even been built, let alone catch on in the hunting world. The SWFA ultra-light would be the prefect example if it had their mil-quad reticle as an option.

For me, and of lot of hunters, we don't need to dial. My hard limit is 600y. I think for a lot of people it is less, and for some very skilled people, it is more. So for me about 3.6 mils gets me to my maximum range on game. Any ole mil based reticle can give me that, and I don't need to carry another 20oz of scope since I don't really need it to track, just hold zero.

Sure would be nice if I could get something like the SWFA ultra-light with a mil based reticle. I think i a lot of people were honest with what they wanted in a hunting scope,{people here dragging 40oz scopes over the mountain} and understood the utility of a simple mil-dot{not people here, Fudd Logic} it could get very popular.{voice of reason scope choice and Fudd logic united}:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

The Razor LH MOA based reticle is ok, but I jus feel dirty doing things in MOA. 🤡 🤣 :ROFLMAO: Plus try to find one...

STRANGE BARREL QUESTION

I have a rather weird question about the barrel of one of my bolt guns. This is an honest .5 to .6 inch rifle starting out. If I load up 100 rounds for a Saturday afternoon at the range, my rifle starts off shooting super tight. By the end of the day its shooting about 1.25 inch groups. Once I clean it, we are right back to .5 to .6 inch groups. What I don't understand is why it looses precision so quickly. My goal is to get through a range day with the nut behind the trigger being the only problem. I'm considering trying Tubbs Final finish but I'm not sure that is the right tool for the job. I know ahead of time that final finish won't work miracles. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
