anyone out there doing tenkara style fly fishing?

More and more I have been fishing smaller western streams( the kind you can almost step over) and ran into a guy doing tenkara fly fishing. Light rod, no reel, small selection of flies. He seemed to really like but I was trying to get back to the truck before I lost all light so we did not talk long.

Anyone experienced with it?

Thanks in advance.....

Rifle Scopes Internal Scope Operation

Short history on the scope in question. Purchased a 5-25x56 FFP ATACR in May. Zeroed at 100 yards and quick box test, everything seemed to line up. Shortly after I started seeing groups open up and not be consistent from one day to the next and a 1/2 or 3/4 five shot group would be 2" the next time out. We are talking about an M1A, however a very good one with the previous scope but I wanted more magnification, so on went the 5-25. At this point I thought maybe it was the powder because I changed lots but really had a hard time dialing in a good load the rest of the summer.

To cut to the chase I thought I was on to something recently and was getting pretty consistent 1/2-3/4 three shot groups at 200 yards so I decided to bring the load out to 600 yards to see what it would do. So let it be known that I have not touched the windage dial on this scope since the first time it was zeroed. I shot some sighters and they were off to the right about 5" in a no wind environment so I dialed .2 mils to the left and thought the clicks felt a little mushy even going beyond what I was intending for so I had to bring it back .1

So ten shots later I had 6 that were fairly center of POA and then 2 off to the left of center about 12" and 2 off to the right of center about 12", so just over 4 MOA and vertical was acceptable. Some may joke and say well it's an M1A so that's about right but this same rifle would hold 1 MOA or slightly over for 10 shots at that distance previously.

One other note, I noticed on several occasions over the summer that my sight picture would get blurry after several shots and then it would clear up. Tried readjusting the diopter but to no avail, it didn't change.

So I contacted NF and they gave me an RMA number to send the scope in to have it checked and I pulled it last night. I guess before I ship it, does it make sense that just the windage would have an issue and not the elevation if something was amiss internally? Are they not both affected by a single retention spring inside the erector tube? I probably should have tried the box test again but I pulled the scope in frustration and boxed it up.

Not an internal scope expert so I figured I would just ask for some advice before I send it away for 6 weeks.

Need a backpack for air travel. Maxpedition, or??

I need a small pack to suppliment my carry on luggage. Something I can store under the seat in front of me, so size is somewhat of an issue. Big enough to hold a change of clothes, toiletries, and a few other odds and ends.

I have abt 4 other packs, 2 are old Maxpeditions, which are fantastic. One is nearly 20yrs old, and I use it daily. (Pigmy Falcon II) I've noticed Maxpedition has nearly doubled in price since I last bought one. I also don't want something that screams "TACTICOOL! SEARCH ME!" so, something toned down. It won't be a full time air flight bag, so something useful outside that role.

Firearms Tikka 6GT in MDT ACC

Has about 250rds thru the barrel at most it is a preferred barrel blanks prefit. The action started off as a Tikka tac a1 and then put into the mdt chassis. It does have the reduced trigger weight spring in it. The chassis has internal and external weights. Does not come with the scope mount or bipod but the scope could be added to make a package deal.

Leveling my scopes

I just don't get what's up with all the "tools" to do this. Here's my technique that has worked for literally years, and all you need is a carpentry level, a bubble level, and a pencil.
  1. Put your rifle in a gun vise and position with a wall several feet behind the butt
  2. Use the pencil and carpenter's level to draw a vertical line on the wall
    • If you're doing this in the kitchen or living room ... ask permission first :)
  3. Use the bubble level to level the rifle in the vise ... mount the scope rings or base and tighten to spec
  4. Loosely mount the scope on the rifle
  5. Point a very bright flashlight through the scope from front to rear - projecting your scope reticle onto the wall behind the butt stock
  6. Line up the vertical reticle line of the scope with the vertical line you penciled on the wall
  7. Gradually tighten everything down, making sure the rifle stays level and the flashlight reticle projection on the wall stays aligned and vertical
Declare victory and go drink a beer. If you keep the rifle horizontally level, and your pencil line is vertically level, and you keep the reticle and wall lines aligned during ring tightening ... this is fool-proof.

A great guy shared this with me years ago, and it works perfectly every time. The pencil line has been on my wall for years.
