Thank you for entertaining my first post. I've decided to start my first build with the intention of coming as close to a "do all" gun as possible; for this reason I chosen a Terminus Zeus QC SA. I've also decided on an ESS chassis for a decent modularity to weight ratio.

Here are the boxes I want the rifle to check:
-shoot .223 for training on a budget (out to 500M for now)
-shoot .308 for hunting and longer range target shooting
-shoot 300 BLK subs (solely for fun).

I need input on what optic to purchase for (ideally all of) these tasks. My current preference is finding a used ATACR 4-16 in MRAD. I don't *think* I'll be under-scoped in North Carolina. Additionally, the turrets and lack of tunneling on this particular model are appealing. Please let me know of other optics I ought to be considering as well as any other general input.

I wanted to get the view from the Hide on an optimization I'm working through. I've been shooting PRS for a few years and am still working on optimizing my setup. I'm down to the stock/chassis and figuring out what works best. I wanted to get the opinion of the Hide on choices. Note all rifles are build the same (impact 737, 6CM, 26" M24 barrel, TT Diamond)

My areas of focus for the chassis have been balance and feel. I've narrowed it down to three, and I own all three, though waiting on the Foundation to arrive.

1. Spuhr SICS - Great chassis, work of art from a machining perspective. The limiting factors for me are the butt pad sucks (too soft), The cheek pad is very wide (pushing your face off to the left) and their barricade stop pushes the pivot point on a bag pretty far forward - requiring a lot of front end weight to get natural balance. Vertical thumb grip was odd, but quickly got used to it. Minimizes tension in my hand relative to MDT chassis' that require the thumb to be more towards the right.

2. JAE-700 G4 - Also a great chassis, but I haven't shot it yet. Ergos feel good, and my hand fits. Mag well adjustment ensures clean feeding. It's very rear heavy, though, and has required 2 sets of MDT weights up front to balance. These aren't really made for this chassis, though, so kinda awkward looking, but they work. Given the limited fore-end, the rifle *just* balances on a game changer shmedium against the magazine. Maybe a little rear-heavy still. I also don't love that it's not really supported any longer, and MDT just replaced it with the G5 which appears to be cheaper/less featured (they dropped the adjustable magazine cage) and reduced the quality of the JAE machining. Makes me concerned about future issues

3. Foundation Centurion - Shot it at the last match for a few rounds. Seemed good, but the ergos around the grip are a little large. I ordered it in "light" version to help with the balance. But I have to wait 12 weeks to get it to really spend time with it so this is not a short-term option.

Ok, given all of that - I'm curious to hear the opinions of the Hide.

i have a Beyer aluminum sleeved barrel and i dont really like the finish on it. has anyone done a bead blast on aluminum to get to a uniform matte finish texture and color? what blasting are you using, glass bead or soda blast? any more specifics?

Vudoo 360 arrived earlier in the week, and I ran one wet patch of C4 and a few dry patches and she was ready to shoot those SK Standard Plus ammo. I bought two bricks of them, and so far on two trips I made to the range, I put 250 rounds total. Sighted in at 50 yards, my ATACR shows 5.5 MOA dead on at 100 yards. I ran 5 shots through a P35 and average speed is around 1100 fps. Set up the data and velocity into the Kestrel. So far the best the rifle has been shooting is about .300 MOA @ 50 yards and .634 MOA @ 100. But it does not shoot like this everytime, sometimes it would shoot bigger groups or a flyer, etc, some times it shoots nicely. I ordered a box of two other brands of SK ammo and a box of Midas to test in the future after breaking in the barrel. Are the above groups reasonable with SK Standard Plus or should I expect better? Winds was around 13 mph at the time of shooting.

Question is does 500 rounds of SK Standard enough to season the barrel before i test with different varieties of Lapua and SK ammo?

Does 5.5 MOA at 100 yards sound about right when its sighted in at 50 yards?

1100 fps average seems a little fast for the SK Standard ammo, average on websites says 1073 fps.

Has anybody in here recently ordered any of the Hornady Sub-X 190gr .300 BLK factory ammo? Notably the ammo from GunMag Warehouse that they have on sale for $23.99 a box right now? And particularly from Lot #: 3232771.

Mine just came in today, and it was brand new, factory sealed 200rd cases still taped up from Hornady, but I noticed something odd… The ammo is NOT loaded in Hornady brass. It’s loaded in brand new Starline brass… which is widely-considered to be very good quality and consistent brass, versus the reputation that Hornady brass typically gets. Which, despite the Hornady brass typically being a little soft around the primer pocket, and loosening up a few loadings quicker than other brands, I have had pretty good luck with it as far as making consistent reloads, especially in their .308 Win Match brass.

If anyone else ordered this, or if anyone from Hornady is on this site, I’d love to know what happened, or how this Lot # of ammo came to be loaded into Starline brass from the factory?

Can anyone else check yours to see if it’s the same way? It’s too late to call GMW or Hornady, but I’ll call them tomorrow to find out what’s up with this. It’s all in brand new unopened boxes, and the 10 box cases were factory taped & sealed from Hornady. The labels on the boxes are not creased from having ever been opened, and it appears to be 100% brand new from the Hornady plant…

From what I can tell, it appears to be some kind of PVD coating that can be used to treat both the interior and exterior of rifle barrels. I've read rumors around the web that Sig may be using something like this on the 277 Fury barrels to deal with what should otherwise be quite the barrel burner.

PVD/DLC is a line-of-sight coating, thus hasn't been implemented for barrel bore treatment heretofore.

I thought "what the hell" (had a couple adult beverages last night) and messaged the OP.

Looks like they're based in Lititz, PA. About an hour and 20 from my AO.

I did tell him he should post here as you guys would definitely put his tech to the test.

If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is, but again, this is interesting.
