Triggertech Special—weird feeling

Just installed a two stage Special into my latest build. A Lone Peak Razor Titanium Long action, using Hawkins M5 bottom metal, Manners mini-chassis.

Now on to the issue, when pulling the trigger the first stage feels normal, audible click sometimes, but the best way I can describe it is it’s like you’re pulling against a wall the entire time and then the trigger will fire. Could be something easy, but all of my other TT are diamonds, and none have this feel. I was going to swap it out tomorrow if I can’t figure it out, anyone have any ideas?

We finally did it!

After a looong, extremely stressfull ordeal, we finally escaped the communist peoples' republic of Illinois for the freer state of Tennessee.

After three 26' U-haul and two 20' trailer loads, plus two overflowing 20 yard dumpsters, and much help from some incredible new neighbors, I'm no longer a criminal for exercising a constitutional right.

Anyway, here's the new backyard:

20240801_172950.jpg

I recall seeing a thread about movers a while back. My advice, sell or pitch EVERYTHING (exceptions apply, of course) and buy new stuff. We moved ourselves and saved money. We had a 3500 sqft house and a 1200 sqft shop, chickens and rabbits. Total cost to move was ~ $5-8k, Didn't keep track, and more physical labor than I could possibly have imagined. Totally worth it in the end.

More Police Radio Communications Will Be Encrypted

I am sort of a fence-sitter on this subject. For security, safety and privacy reasons there is a need for encryption. However, I fear that there will be a loss of transparency with some departments and some bad actors will say and do some bad things with encrypted communications to hide their misdeeds.

Like I said, I'm on the fence about this but one needs to be careful for what they wish for. Does anyone remember the Patriot Act and FISA?

When you are watching the videos and reading the articles, keep in mind that it is illegal to encrypt HAM, GMRS and FRS radio communications.

Although some proposals have called for media access to audio files after the fact, that could take a very long time and with communications heavily redacted to the point that there is absolutely no transparency. And if media access were permitted some proposals call for legal agreements that media would have to sign that exposes them to all sort of legal minefields.

This is NPR so take it for what it's worth but some interesting points are raised in the radio broadcast embedded in the article.

Feedback Reporting a member "LTCSZ"

Be on the lookout... LTCSZ is a scammer. The below member replied to a WTB ad I placed. He had pictures of the item I was looking for. ( I found the exact photos on a previous ad. ) He even tried to photoshop a piece of paper with the date on it.. He/She then tried to to have me call him and then wound never answer. He even suggested I send half the payment and could pay the rest when the item was received.

I reviewed his profile and he hasn't posted anything until recently (His previous messages were from 2011)

Here's the number used (725) 326-5180 Would not call me after I requested and supplied my number.

Applied Ballistic custom curves

I am looking at weather meters and have gotten sticker shock from the Kestrels and am trying to find a cheaper work around. I believe I have found one Tempest “WEATHERmeter” for precision shooting along with the geoballistics app, not an elegant solution but I will happily take the discount.

What throws me though is the nicer Kestrels with applied ballistics can do custom curves, but I assume geoballistics does not.

But I can buy the applied ballistics app for $30. So can I use that app with the weathermeter? Or can I manually type the information from the meter in to it and use the custom curves?

SOLD Manners CS2 W/G2 mini chassis

Like new Manners CS2 with gen2 mini chassis for Remington 700 SA and clones. Currently has a Curtis Axiom in it. Bought it new and it’s never been taken to the field only shot from the bench. Would consider trading for a PRS1 or PRS2 maybe others but has to have the mini chassis. Or will sale for $1400 shipped.

Staccato RMR Mounting

Many people have issues with their mounting plates coming loose. They blame it on loctite. But I have a theory:

The slide has 3 threaded holes. Some plates utilize two of the holes. The latest Dawson plate uses all 3. I think the CHPWS plate uses all three as well.

I just installed a FCD plate on my Staccato P. The plate is extremely well made and fits the slide perfectly. The problem is the supplied screws. The plate screws are too long and they touch the extractor in the extractor tunnel. That screw needs to be shortened otherwise the plate will not be tight against the slide. In my case I measured the screw protrusion and the depth of the hole in the slide and they were identical. I shortened the screw .025” and it was flush with the ceiling of the extractor tunnel.

The opposite threaded hole did not cause issues. However the bottom of the hole is sealed. This causes a problem in that air pressure pushes the loctite out around the screw head so you don’t get complete coverage around the threads.

If you install the plate as is the left screw doesn’t have enough loctite to properly retain it and the right screw gets hammered loose by the extractor wiggling around every time it grabs a case.

I think it is a good idea, if using blue loctite, to apply it to the threads in the left threaded hole in the slide with a paper clip. Or to use red loctite extremely sparingly. The right screw needs to be checked for clearance otherwise it will work itself loose.

The sight screw’s supplied by FCD were incorrect as well. The head diameter was too big so I ended up using the Trijicon screws that came with the RMR. Again, I had to modify the length because the short ones were too short (2threads engaged) and the long ones protruded .050” out the bottom of the plate.

The install was a bit of a pain but everything looks good. I hope someone reading this gets something out of it.

SOLD Sig Sauer SSG 3000 (308) SOLD

The SSG3000 rifles have a quick barrel-change mechanism and long magazines. They can accommodate 30-06/6.5x55 class of cartridges. The 23.5" factory 308 barrels are known for their accuracy and long barrel life (made from tough German Krupp steel). The scope is a Leupold Mk4 LR 6.5-20 (2nd focal). The exposed surfaces from the camouflage paint look excellent (no wear). I don't know the round count on the barrel. Bipod/scope included.

$2250 shipped to your FFL.

GRT Experts - Building 22ARC File?

So I just started using GRT and like it a lot. Between the documentation that comes with it and a little before-hand knowledge of using open source type programs, I found it fairly easy to get up and going. I’m just using GRT for general knowledge I.e.: starting charges, approx max charge, general velocity.

My question is, can anybody walk me through building a cartridge in there that is reflective of the 22ARC. Like what cartridge did you start with? What all variables did you change? Is there a spot to just build a cartridge from scratch? Is there already another thread on this I missed?

Thanks for the help in advance

SOLD Like-new SS Remington 700 5R (20" 308) with Zeiss scope

The rifle and scope both in excellent condition. The rifle has a 20" 308 threaded barrel (5/8 x 24). It has a TiggerTech primary trigger, and a Dead Air brake installed. Otherwise the rifle is untouched. Looked new to me when I bought it a while ago and I only sighted in the scope. The scope is an older version of the Zeiss Conquest MC 6.5-20 with Schott glass. It's an excellent scope for hunting or target shooting (second focal plane).

$1800 shipped to your FFL.
