Hi From Maine

Hi all new to the group.

I am finishing up a LMT MWS 308 build. I haven't really seen anyone doing something like this so figured I would see what the feedback was. I have a TA11 Acog with donut of death reticle, QD mounted and plan on using that for most things with this LMT. However I also have a bolt action Montana X2 and wanted to see if there was a way to share an optic with both my LMT and my Montana. In case I want to shoot further out with the LMT on the range.

I found a killer deal on a S&B Polar 96 2.5-10 with a Zeiss ZM rail mount. These are very common in Europe but never really caught on in the US, which I never understood. Great thing with this setup is no need for scope rings, so using pic rail mounts on my bolt action, I can swap between my LMT and Montana, without needing to change a thing with the scope mount. QD mount lines up perfectly on both platforms. I needed to get a cheek riser for the bolt action but I actually like it better that way anyways so it all worked out.

Only issue will be needed to zero the scope each time but I am curious to see how off it will actually be between the two.

Thoughts? Thanks!

What Optic Are YOU Running?

There are threads with folks asking, "What optic for 300 yards?" or "what optic do you recommend for under $X?"

I am asking something different.

What optic are you running on your rimfire, and, more importantly, why?

I am hoping for a lot of responses giving a wide variation of scopes for rimfire use and their various features that you find useful. Hopefully, you can add one or two things you do not like about the optic, too.

This can be a good reference for others in the future trying to decide on a rimfire optic.

SOLD WTS Foundation MG2 IMPACT 737

I have a dark distressed foundation MG2 cut for an impact action and Hawkins m5 bottom metal. Used in one PRS match. With my hand size, I think the MG2 trigger reach is a little too far, and I’d like to try the centurion.

Would sell for $1075 OBO. Also willing to trade, let me know what you’ve got.

MPA BA comp or Foundation?

This isn’t a which one is better post I truly like both stock/chassis more of some advice on a build I have going on.

I currently have a bergara b14r in a mpa ba comp chassis and it is very nice and very adjustable which is a good thing as my daughter shooting with me and I’m 6’4 and she’s not quiet 5’ so there’s a huge LOP difference lol the new barreled action will be in 6.5 creedmoor that she will also shoot. I recently got to shoot a 6 dasher in a foundation and REALLY liked that stock.

Option 1: Use the MPA chassis for both barreled actions and just swap them out as needed when we shoot. We definitely will shoot the .22lr more probably go threw 1000 rounds a week right now since the weather is nice.

Option 2: Put the 6.5 in the MPA chassis and order a cheaper stock for the .22lr like a krg bravo, mdt xrs etc.

Option 3: Leave the .22lr in the MPA and order a foundation for the 6.5 and have it setup with spacers so she can still shoot it will.

I think I like stocks more than chassis but the chassis just flat out work and work well and not to mention the adjustability, weight tuning etc is all super easy. Any advice is welcome.

❓ How Can I Determine the FoV at Magnifications other than Min. and Max. Given in the Specs?

❓ How can you determine what the FoV of a scope is — at magnifications other than the minimum and maximum values given in the manufacturer's specs?

Besides the obvious, of course 😉:
"Buy the scope, set out a tape measure, record, caluclate — done."

➧ But, before I bite the bullet and type my CC number in the field.... — I'd like to know what FoV I can expect at different magnifications.

Because to me FoV is a big deal. To March it was so much that they developed their Wide Angle scopes.

🔶 Just to see what FoV are typical — I did a little survey of manufacturer published FoV (min. and max. magnification). The table below shows the data I found.

Are there magnified optics without a fixed eye relief?

❓ Are there magnified optics without a fixed eye relief?

Sorry for flaunting my optics ignorance so unabashedly with this question..... 🤦🏻‍♂️

I love my red dots:
No matter where my eye is — sometimes 2 feet away from the optic, sometimes almost touching it — I always have a shot.

However, I'd like something with a little more magnification, even 2x or 3x would be great.

I understand that adding a magnifier will change my eye relief — and my unlimited-eye-relief red dot turns into a regular scope with a fixed eye relief of only a few inches.

➧ Is there anything out there that will do this trick?
➧ Or are we still waiting for that innovation?

Thanks! 👍🏼

Matthias
