So I figured I’d try something different. I like a challenge so this was right up my alley. I ventured out on a coyote hunt with nothing but a helmet mounted 14 and my kimber 1911. No calls, scents, mojo tails or anything.

I spotted this yote at about 100 yards and he was already down wind so I squeaked him in closer knowing he was going to wind me. My confidence level of actually killing this particular yote was very low. The moment he winded me he darted right, having cover from the tree line, I ran to a nearby gate to see beyond the tree line where he headed. He was in the only place I could have seen him in the field! The shot was 60-70 yards, I’m no IDPA shooter but I was suppressed and I believe in the “every shot you don’t take is a miss” term lol. So I put the laser on him and let it fly. The 230 grain HP hit him like a tow missile. The impact sounded as if mike Tyson hit a heavy bag with a baseball bat, needless to say he didn’t make it.

YouTube killed the quality.... video looks much better on my camera.

Per memory my m1911 hold at 100yds is 16 inches, but I just checked and Applied Ballistics is showing 14.7. And at 75yds showing 6.5 ... so holding up a bit would have been indicated for a 60-70 yard shot. Where did the shot hit ?? And where was the laser pointed when the shot happened ?
(always curious about the details :) )

Isn't there an "HD" button in there somewhere .. I seem to recall one ... maybe they hid it ...

Nice shot regardless of the details !!!

I go out and shoot rabbits with my 1911, supposed to do that once a quarter for "qualifying" ... with the 14 and the laser ...

To be exact here I held the laser exactly on the small spec of the yote I could see wig haha! The pistol laser seemed to cover the whole yote at that distance and I actually didn’t at all expect to hit it. I hit him far back in the gut, almost in the hind quarters. I shoot my pistols out to 100 yards pretty regularly, how much do they drop? I have no idea but the steel ipsc Target dings. No I don’t hit it every shot but I hit it. Oddly enough you don’t have to aim high to do it either. Could I repeat this shot in the video? I doubt it but it won’t be for lack of shooting at it hahaha

Well I have a commander 4.25 inch barrel so if you have a full length, yours probably drops less ... but hecque aim at the "necK" of the steel and you might hit it more often. Don't have to worry much about windage with that bullet!

    Congratulations!!!!

Done a few rabbits, a few possum, and a bunch of garden raiding coons. Haven't tried coyote yet, and not up to a 1911 at night...
    Just the old ruger.

m1911 commander with 4.25 inch barrel ... and that's a "grip" ir-laser on there ... crimson doesn't make those any more ... so now you'd have to use a vis-laser ... but I think it would work 97% as well.

Via laser on ruger works fine. Just have to shoot fast after u turn it on, critters don't like vis laser. But, its easily overcome. Practice....
22 weighing what ruger weighs, 25 yards and in, is almost too easy. Out to 50, dot starts obscuring rabbit, possum, or coon. Practice, learn, go out with it, use it, learn. Work within its limits.
Got a couple other laser options, but rifle mounted thermal spoiled me soooo bad. Pts233 on m&p15 22 is awesome. Just sayin. Almost can't shoot laser on rifle anymore, almost lost muscle memory on technique. Just sayin.

I see someone else also wears the original gangster outfit.

You guys now have me bringing my Beretta with me when hunting at night. Truth be told, I've abandoned sidearms quite a while back as they are never used, a carbine is better 99% of the time and I'd rather just carry 2-3 more carbine mags instead.

The biggest use my pistol sees when hunting is while riding the 4-wheeler. I place my 6.8 SPC P415 in a rack on the front for riding. If I come up on a hog or rabbit or whatever, I'll slam on the brakes and get off of it (sometimes before it stops moving) while drawing my 1911. The rifle would be preferred, but the pistol gets the job done.

Agreed... The pistol is only needed to fight your way to your rifle. But to be quite honest I’m kinda bored with night hunting right now and I’m trying more challenging ways to hunt ethically. I want to get a good clean video of a multi kill hog hunt with my pistol then I’m moving on to what I would consider the hardest way to hunt with i2. A recurve! I plan on using illuminocs on my arrows and shooting strictly off of muscle memory while wearing dual tubes. I would like to have someone filming from behind instead of a helmet mounted fixture like in this video though. Believe it or not I have practiced a good bit with this method and it works better than you would think!

Fucking nice man!! This is exactly what I do with hogs. Use a PVS-14 Unfilmed WP and a suppressed Mk23 with the Steiner DBAL-PL. I need to get some damn video for you all. Glad to see I am not the only crazy fucker doing this.

No problem. Can you give me a few days? My friend borrowed my setup to go hog hunting this week. He will be back on Friday afternoon.

Also I'm not professional photographer by any means, but I'll get you a few different pics as best quality as I can.

Badass! Nice shootin. Took a 350 lb Texas boar a few years back with a 9mm and cheap ball ammo. Sitting on my ass calling turkey and he took a bit of interest in me. Eye level tusks and only a 9mm or turkey shot didnt make me happy. Flopped just fine though.

No sir you are not alone. The challenge, time, determination and patience separates of from the average Joe. Waiting and waiting is part of the game.
    Love it
