Has anyone put a Ruger American Predator into an XLR or other type of chassis? What type of action was it considered when you had to choose the stock? is is the exact same as a Remington 700 short action? Some chassis order forms say stillers/"predator" on them, but it's not clear if those are for ruger predators, or savage predators (are they the same?).

anyone with hands on experience? I don't want to buy the rifle as a cheap fun bolt action, if I'll have to get a custom chassis made for it.

I haven't heard of any chassis companies making anything for the American. It is certainly not the same as those you listed. Not even close.

Might I recommend getting the RPR instead?

That's what I was afraid of.

The RPR is on my radar for sure, but my goal was to put something like a 20" Savage 10 into a nice light XLR chassis, and count on the 6.5 ballistics to keep me playing the game out to 1000 yards. I know cross wind will eat my lunch, but if I get my dope right I can still reach out that far with a 20" barrel.

The Savage 10 BA Stealth was also interesting to me, but like the RPR, I was hoping to avoid those extra 4" of barrel weight. I've yet to see either with anything shorter

=(

The American is the action, the predator is a model. Heavier threaded barrel model. The action itself is the same across the board and the only chassis I know of is the mdt^^ McMillan will make a stock though as will a couple others.

Supposedly the RPR is based off the American action but it's not the same thing and the stiller predator is the stiller predator. It's stiller, not ruger and not savage which is yet again another thing entirely.

Buy a rpr, tikka, bergara, or savage with a chassis already. Seems like they are all in the wheelhouse of what you are after, in the same price range. If you need a shorter barrel, have a smith cut it down, it is not expensive.

The only chassis for the Ruger American that I am aware of it the MDT LSS. I recently picked up a used one for my 6.5 Creedmoor Predator. I have a couple things I need to add but I am loving it so far!!!
