Rifle Scopes Strike Eagle vs Razor ?

spend the money on the razor?

For your application, I would recommend the Razor. As far as the Strike Eagle holding you back, I just don’t see that happening unless you need superior glass. The functions of the strike Eagle give you everything you should need. As far as the optic shitting the bed, worst case scenario your turrets go down. I’ve got enough hold over in the reticle to get me to 1000 yds on my 556 RPR at a 100 yd zero so I’m still in the game. I’ve had a scope kill me during a match but that was a Burris XTR II and the glass completely washed out on me due to sun position. The sun shade provided by vortex would have prevented that issue for me. You made the right call getting the Razor, buy once cry once, but the strike Eagle is a hell of a scope for the money.

I voted Razor. And here’s my reason. If someone would’ve went back to me in 2004 when I started getting involved in firearms and shooting and given me a list of the things that I would end up with I would’ve saved many thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars; wasted on things that I did not end up using.

That aint no shit right there. The inside of my safe looks nothing like it did 10 years ago, and my shooting interests and habits are very different.

There was a deal at liberty optics for the razor at 1600 but that seems to have passed

Yeah I kinda wished I jumped on that deal myself. Now it looks like the new toric 4.5-30x56 is the one I’m leaning on

Just throwing my 2cents in, i bought the new SEin 5x25 and previewed both it as well as the gen 2. Aside from a more positive click in the turrets and minimal if any difference in clarity of glass.. the zero stop is the same, reticle is the same, vip guarentee is the same.. I couldnt justify the extra 400 for the dismal differences.. also 34mm tube allows a lot of adjustment.. js..

I took my Strike Eagle out two weeks ago and shot it next to a 3-18 Razor. Really the glass was not even close in the SE. The glass was useable and had no problem hitting targets but the instant you get behind the Razor you know they are not similar.

that being said, we did the the Strike Eagle for what it is.

Just throwing it out there, If you’re new to shooting and don’t want to break the bank on glass, maybe look at the Vortex Venom. I know I know “it’s a Chinese piece of shit”. Yes, it’s not top of the line, but it’s 34mm, has everything the strike eagle does besides illuminated reticle and locking turrets. You can pick one up for $500, get in on your gun, get some trigger time then upgrade after a year or so. Im sure it’s not what you want to do, but it’s a 90% solution. Get a Razor or ATACR for your long gun after you save up for a while and put the Venom on a .22 and give NRL22 a shot. Not saying it’s ideal but it’s what I did and it worked out well for me. Enter the world of long range shooting in baby steps man, or you’ll get addicted and go down the rabbit hole. Ask me how I know.

How did you even find this thread? Lol. Anyway, I picked up a never mounted Stroke Eagle in the PX here for the store price of a Venom. Everyone says the glass is a little better in the SE plus you get more elevation, illumination, and it’s a little lighter. I’ll probably put it on my .22 for practice once the good glass shows up.

Yes, I am going to go shoot a local comp out to 1100 yards with the SE next weekend if the other scope doesnt come in before then. Gotta get that positional practice in.

I was researching if there was any difference in the glass quality between the Venom and the SE, this thread came up in the search. I didn’t even look at the date of the thread until after I posted, and saw it was two years old.

I try not to get too involved in folks choosing particular products, but vortex Chinese made scopes do not have a good reputation for longevity.
If I was in a predicament where I had to settle for a Chinese made scope, I would likely look to the best Athlon one I could afford.

I mounted up the Strike Eagle and took it to the indoor 100 yard range. It seemed to track pretty well and glass was decent. Over all I’m happy with it especially for the price I paid.
