Using Kestrel for cross-wind component

I do understand that, but was just wondering if you could get the cross-wind another way.
While the impeller can spin it's not going to be an accurate measurement. You can prove it for yourself by doing it the right way then with your method and compare the results.

Hopefully someday small ultrasonic wind sensors make their way to Kestrels, you won't even need the vane mounts for them then.

Thx. Suspected that would be too easy. As usual, I have more questions than answers!

Well now, this is getting interesting, a mini unit that is 1/2 the price of the Calypso solar unit.

No built in calculator or display but if using Strelok doesn't matter. Add a cheapo mini tripod or magic arm and are the same price range as a 2700 and their wind vane. The $500~ price range was high enough to keep me away from buying one to experiment with, the mini is enticing.
