Has anyone ever toyed with the idea of downsizing the collection to get one all world gun/scope combo? Would you sell most of your stash to buy a TacOps with a ZCO on it?

Nah, I think a variety of shooting types is more fun...

Sometimes you may want to do some silhouette freehand with a 357 mag revolver. Then the next day do some defensive stuff with an auto. Some plinking with a great 22 setup..then long range with a good bolt...some clays, etc..

I guess if you wanted to totally invest in the best for a particular type then all good, diff strokes for diff folks.

Downsizing, yes, absolutely. But gotta have a few odds and ends. If you just mean precision rifle, yes. But have spare barrel or two and enough supplies to burn those barrels up. I still believe two is one and one is none, but bolt guns are so simple, a spare extractor, trigger and any other little thing that could go wrong is a good idea. Many times companies change designs or parts become impossible to get. I don’t feel like owning 15 guns is a waste, especially if the ammo is different and streamlining cartridges allows you to stock up on more of each type rather than a few boxes for every gun.

The AI is a great one-gun solution, but to truly explore that avenue today I would do a Terminus Zeus with a 6.5PRC bolt and 308 Bolt and then have stocks (chassis)

The Zeus has the 700 footprint you need to be truly adaptable.

As an example, you can have an MDT ACC, and HNT, along with a Manners mini chassis and here you have 3 different rifles. The barrels are super easy to swap, you can get Bugholes Pre Fits and with the two bolts, you have everything you need.

With the 6.5PRC you have a larger hunting rifle, you have a capacity to have a 2400 yard ELR Gun, and then you can swap to a short action caliber and plink away.

Not a solid plan. if selling to fund nicer shit, get to it. Like someone above said, some day you want to shoot pistols, then LR, the 22LR, 9mm carbine.
I'm actually kicking myself right now for not loading the 10-22's up and going and burning a brick of ammo, nice evening.

Guns? I don't have any guns. Just boats. Lots of boats.

Sell your boats, fellas. They take up way too much space, require too many accessories, and need way too much cleaning. Plus they're expensive to feed.
This applies to lots of stuff. Guns. Boats. Off road vehicles. Kids. Significant others. Ponies. Lots of stuff…

I’m certainly not throwing shade on the Zeus but this can be accomplished with just about any factory action now. I plan on getting a magnum bolt for my plain-ass 700 and buying about a dozen barrels over the years. Everything from 22BR to help the kids get into shooting to 338 edge because, um 338 edge

Not an option. A fellow needs a shotgun(12 gauge) , a .22 rifle and a heavy caliber rifle for the big stuff. A nice, mid caliber, long range rifle would be nice but something along the line of a .338 Win Mag or .35 Whelen, can do anything that needs to be done within reason.

One gun just can’t answer the needs unless a fellow or lady really does not need anything larger than a carry gun.

338 Edge is the shit…. I love mine.

Sure, I’d sell them all if it would fully fund one of these (fully operational):

You only sell something that is ....ehh, only ok.
You buy something exceptional to replace it.
You sell something else that is only ok.
You buy something else exceptional.

If you must sell 1, you are required to buy one to replace it.
Never take a step down in quality, only move up.

Why do I feel I have to explain this shit, it should be obvious.

This.

Just came back from the range. Shot the Remington 223 out to 300, the Savage .22 rifle to 100 and then wore out some close steel with a 45ACP. Warmed down with a Ruger Mk. IV on some spinners.

All in all a wonderful day at the range.

Kind of a stupid question.

We couldn't shoot our iron-sight 100yd matches with our every-day-carry 9mm's - and those are not practical for USPSA either.

We're not "collectors" but everything has a purpose, except for an AR and a 1911.

No. Smaller collection of better quality? Absolutely. It’s a process many mentally healthy budget challenged gun owners go through. Less volume of crap, better tools. I think the switch barrel 700 clones are the way to go, unless budget isn’t really an issue for you.

Correct, the 1911 is beyond purpose. Being near one is like being touched by the hand of God. Gives me goosebumps every time.

Yes. I keep thinking AXMC as well. Just the scope savings alone would make a dent (love my ATACR but a dozen of them would be financially batshit). The problem is that you lose a lot of cash parting out to chase that dream and, for me, I really prefer the McMillan A5 ergonomics.
