I have a Savage model 10 FCP bolt action 308 with a custom barrel and a 6mm BR Norma rifle for competition shooting. My father passed away about 2 years ago and he was big on reloading for those 2 rifles. I don't do enough shooting with those rifles to go through the process of reloading. I mostly hunt with my other rifles and bow. But when there is a shoot i would like to compete. I won a 300yard match with the 308 before he passed away with 175 STMK bullets my biggest miss in that match was about 2.5 inches. I was curious to know if anyone knows any good ammo that would get me those great groups at 300 yards+ for both the 308 and 6MM BR. The twist rate on the Savage is 1-10 and on 6mm is 1-8.

Looks like 6br has factory ammo available.

For match accuracy you can buy more expensive rounds, but Federal Gold Metal Match 168gr BTHP, is still a great, accurate round for close to mid-range (up to500yd). I've killed a lot of critters with it too, including a speed goat at 592 yards...

Don't waste money on anything with a 168 SMK bullet. So many better bullets out there now. I use the 168 ELD-M in factory ammo and loading and have shot it out to 1250 yards in matches. That, the 178 ELD-M, 169 TMK, any of the Berger offerings in factory ammo etc. Lots of good .520+ BC bullets out there for the .308 now.

Well if he’s only shooting 300 yards . . .

A lot of good suggestions for factory ammo in above replies. i found that rifles can be finicky about which ammo they prefer. Before i started loading my own, I had a GAP Hospitaller. I tried FGMM and a few other premium brands. That rifle just shot it’s best with Hornady match 178 gr factory loads. So I would suggest trying FGMM, Berger and Hornady match and see what the rifle tells you.

can you guys let me know what size groups you were getting at different distances with the factory ammo of your choice
Well under a 1” for 5 shot groups at 100 yards should be your goal.
Ideally 1/2” or less.

Here’s some crappy groups shooting 155 hornady steel match 308 through a used unknown round count barrel I picked up used. 200 yards. I’m a terrible shot

Also shot 2 3 round groups at 100 with a similar unknown round count used 6.5cm barrel. Wanted to see if worth cutting down to 18”. Shot exceptionally well with hornady 168 amax.

These two groups are a year apart. FGMM 168, 100 yards. Only four shots in the top one because the first round was a sighter after mounting the scope. Next four all in the same hole. Rifle is a 700LTR, 20" barrel with a 1:12 twist. I've considered rebarreling it with something faster a half dozen times but the way it shoots I just can't bring myself to pull it apart.
