Gunsmithing Sooooooooo Im an idiot. Help with AR barrel/nut

My dumbass took my barrel to have the brake welded on..... all good... I made sure to put the gas block on it before I took it, since I wouldnt be able to afterwards.......... WELL... I forgot to put the damn barrel nut on the barrel......... F*$&!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are my options? Any fancy barrel nuts for handguards that open up like a ADM scope ring? lol.

Wondering if a clamp on gas block would open up enough to clear the dead air brake.

Your best bet is to just drill the pin/weld out and start over. Failing that, I'm assuming that your barrel nut will fit over the brake but not the gas block. You can cut the gas block off and replace it with a split gas block that clamps on.

Thats what I need! The shop is 40 miles away, and by the time I do that drive again (80 miles in my truck at 14mpg) pay him to undo/redo.. Id rather just cut the gas block.

Its a PSA adjustable but works fine.. but that JP should do the trick.

Drill the pin out enough to clear the muzzle break and barrel threads, remove the muzzle device, flip barrel over and remove the rest of the pin, and then start over. That's your best bet.

Witt machine also makes a low profile, adjustable, 2 piece clamp on gas block.

I ordered the JP. Hopefully it’ll fit under my handguard

Got the JP clamp block today and cut the PSA block off, and the JP is good to go. Barely cleared the handguard.. but it works!

You’re exactly right and after my anger spurt when I discovered that I left it off, I told my wife the same thing. “I wish the smith would have caught this!” And she said, shouldn’t they catch it? I replied “a experienced one would”

The guy is super nice, I had them cut and thread a barrel after this and he did very well, but I won’t use them again, atleast not for a while. I think he’s relatively new at doing this after completing school for it, so everyone’s going to have the beginner mistakes.

But knowing what I know now, I don’t want to be the victim of anymore beginner mistakes.

It’s hard to find an experienced smith here, had one that was amazing, even did the counties sniper rifles for them, but he called it quits after health issues for more time wjth the family
