Hey guys,
I want to step-up a Glock 31 Gen 4 for a backup carry gun for hunting.

I need:

- night sights (bullet-proof, no red dot)
- slightly longer and bigger slide catch
- trigger tuning (w/o touching the function!)
- 2 holsters, 1 IWB, 1 OWB

What is the way to go?
:)

All day long without question tritium Speedsights. Small company but great sights. My eye picks up that Diamond shaped point on the front sight quicker than traditional sights. Tritium is bright.

Throw the Glock away and buy a quality pistol. :)

Ummmm

1: Im a Trijicon sight guy.
Pick one and install or have installed.
My shop charges $35 to install and do a good job.

2: extended slide releases are a poor choice IMO. Leave it factory.
Drop slide manually.

3. Dremel. Very easy. Youtube it if you arent handy.

4: holsters are personal.
For hunting I mostly use G-code with retention and different mounts (pack belt, belt, paddle) for different parts of my hunt.
Kenai gun fighters are also nice, depending on you.
I carry a big gun, so no IWB for me.

“Wears his gun outside his pants for all the honest world to feel”

And yeah, there is a handgun section this would be more suited to.

GLOCK Night Sights
GLOCK Extended Slide Stop
The more you shoot it, the better it will be. Buy ammo, not gimmicks

Leather or kydex?

I prefer leather, unless it’s a “duty” holster.

1. Any of the premier tritium night sights work. Youll also need a front sight driver and a sight drifter...or at least a delrin rod and hammer. Glock OEM or Trijicon will be my options. You should honestly get a red dot though and call it a day.

2. Glock OEM extended is just extended enough. If you have fat thumbs or ride the slide too close youll end up depressing it.

3. Swap the disconnector to a Ghost 3.5 and optionally change to Zev springs. Some very high grit light sanding to deburr the factory parts. If you want to get rid of the mushy takeup then look into a drop in adjustable from Hyve, Zev, etc.

4. I like GCode or Raven for IWB. OWB I just use my Safariland 6xxx series

Take the slide off, and if you look really close to the underside, might have to remove the barrel. Then get a bright light and shine it under where the barrel was and you know what you’re gunna see? Absolutely fucking nothing. Now Yeet that shit in the garbage and go buy a gun that needs nothing like a Sig or HK and stop modifying shit guns. I can’t decide who is worse, Glock fags or LGBTQRSZ.

You mean like the auto-firing P365's that were shooting by themselves... 🤣

Yeah, Sig is overrated and overhyped shit. Glock, while bulky, is still more bulletproof than a Sig. I have a few Glocks, including a 31C, but the grip angle and ergonomics of them are not my favorite...But I know they'll always function if I need them to.

I love H&K's... Have a few, but they're not daily carries, due to their rareness, but they're not safe queens either...I still shoot them.

Thanks for the input und the laughters guys.

I have and do own several handguns from CZ, Walther, H&K, S&W.
A Glock 17 actually was my first non .22lr. firearm some 25ish years ago (omg).

Almost all of them are and were nice shooters.
But if I had to choose one, only one when SHTF, it would be a Glock, hands down.
And I´m German, not Austrian, so ...

So what I´m taking with me:

- Trijicon night sights
- OEM extended slide catch
- 3.5lbs connector spring and shoot the crap out of it (I´m wondering that nobody brought up the Timney Alpha trigger, which is hyped like a unicorn what I´ve seen.)

What about the holsters, IWB and OWB, for a back-up hunting handgun?
Please give me some suggestions.
No appendix carry for hunting, but concealable (as much as possible with a standard Glock :geek: ).

@Socso.eod:

There are four OWB Holsters from GCode, which one do you use?

Do they let you carry a handgun while hunting in Germany?

Yessir.
Unloaded until you enter your hunting ground, then fully loaded, and even concealed is allowed.
Interesting. What is the reason for having one? Meth cooks? Charging boars? Aggressive poachers?

I'm genuinely curious though as an American I believe you should carry one loaded and concealed anywhere you want without needing a reason

Honestly I’m surprised no one mentioned this but I would go with a Safariland 6000 series ALS holster if you want to OWB carry in the field. Also get the MLS locking forks so that you can quickly take the holster on and off.

For sights I like both the ameriglo and the trijicon hd sights since they’re fairly bright during the day and you still have the tritium for night which works better in low light than a pure fiber optic sight

All of them a bit, poachers and wannabe-gun-thiefs.
There was an incident lately where two police officers were shot in a traffic control by poachers.
They are at court right now.
Since then carrying a handgun is more back in fashion for hunters.

And because owning a gun isn´t that easy, some may try to get one without permission and paying.
It´s seldom, but it happens.

The ancient German hunting ethic (Waidgerechtigkeit) is a codex which is learned in schooling and by the hunting prince (Jagdprinz, kind of a master for so called young hunters (Jungjäger), which you are in the first 3 years as a hunter).
It says, that it is the hunter´s duty and pride, to kill the animal as fast as possible and with as less pain as possible.
This is taken very serious.
So if you hit an animal and it flees hurt, you must follow it up and kill it asap.
That´s the main reason for me to carry a handgun when hunting.

Redeem hurt animals after traffic accidents is another reason, where the area hunter is called by the police to come and do so.
And trap hunting, where you catch the animals (predators) alive (check the trap twice a day or use a radio sensor) is a reason for the handgun too.

Carrying a handgun all day would be nice.
But honestly crime rates are much lower in Germany, especially homicides or violence crimes in general.
Well, there is a bit of an uprise since a few years, but I´m living in the countryside and it is very peaceful here.

That depends on whether it has a waist belt or not. There's very little hunting in Germany where you need to carry a serious amount of stuff with you.
That's essentially where I was getting at.

If your pack or "ruck" has a waist belt, then I/OWB could be pretty uncomfortable and impractical for any real duration.

Without a belt, then it's the obvious solution.

My Glock 30 is factory except for Tritium sights and a reduced pull trigger. I'd have to dig a minute for the brand. I thought about the extended slide release but got used to racking the slide. I bought a 19 with a nice release on it. I'd have to dig that out also. The first owner did the mods.

I’d get XS F8 sights

Not sure why you would IWB for hunting, if you’re carrying a rifle it’s pretty obvious you’re armed 🤷‍♂️

Holster for hunting id go with a chest rig, it stays out of the way when you’re going through the bush, climbing or dragging stuff around

That´s a great info!

Not every US product is available in Germany.
I was searching around and found the Ameriglo i-dot sights, with the same sight picture, one dot above the other.
That made a lot of sense to me, because you only have to aligne two dots instead of bringing one dot in the center of two others.
I thought the two-dot-thingy would be much more easy to achieve.
But I couldn´t find an Ameriglo-dealer anywhere in Germany.
So I actually settled with the Trijicon HD XR, which are available here, and seemed the "next best" solution for me.

Those XS-sights are the same as the Ameriglo, and they are available over here.

I can get the F8 in orange, and the R3D in orange or green.
What´s the difference between the F8 and the R3D?

Ooops, got it, 2 vs 3 dots.

Because of the holster.
Yes, the rifle can be seen by everyone, but not the pistol, I like that.
I will go with a flat belt holster at 3 to 5 o´clock I guess.
