Slow Proof barrel?

What kind of muzzle velocity are y'all getting with Prime 130gr 6.5 Creed out of a 26" barrel? This is a Proof pre-fit on a TL3 action with roughly 500 rounds down and I'm consistent at 2850fps w/ Magnetospeed V3. Accuracy is sub 1/2 MOA so no worries there. Any history of Proof barrels being on the slow side?

I wouldn’t call that slow.

Edit: Just looked back at some previous data. My prime 130 stash went 2750 out of a friends 24” gun. Prime lists the velocity of that load at 2850. So you’re spot on.

I haven’t shot the prime ammo through it, but I have a 26” TL3 prefit as well. I’d say it’s on the faster side if anything. My normal load of 42gr of h4350 under a 140 is up at 2900 FPS. For reference, my 24” Bartlein runs the same load at 2800 (which is considered normal). I have a buddy whose rifle runs the same load at 2840 with a Brux 27” barrel

Proof SS IN 6.5 finished at 25” on a Havak action. Not a profit.
5 sep, old Prime 130 gr, average over the one box I have data on was 2967 measured on a Labradar.

The several Proof barrels I have shot have been notibly faster than comparable barrels and loads. This over 4-5 barrels.

I had Berger 140 hybrids running a hair over 2900 with 42 grains of H4350 in Lapua srp brass. I had intermittent pressure issues in the AZ summer. Backed down to 41.5 grains and it still runs 2860, no pressure issues even in the height of summer. From what I’ve read, I have a particularly fast barrel.

Just ran across this old thread and thought I'd update. I will go over 2k rounds in the next few weeks on my Proof 26" pre-fit and it's still shooting like a mofo have not changed an input on my ballistics app since it sped up after a couple hundred. Also ordered a replacement a few weeks ago to have on hand for when it's time....Owen at Front Range is great. At 2k rounds I figure this barrel doesn't owe me a thing if it goes tomorrow, but as of this week it's humming along. I'm 2780 with 43.8 of StaBall and hamBerger 140s in Lapua LRP.

I’m running 43.4 grn H4350 on 140ELDM Lapua srp on a 24” 7.5 twist… average around 2890 fps. I initially had the same question you did, but I guess I must have a fast one too..
did a ladder test starting with 42 grain and was already flying at 2700 fps.

Might want to back that down a bit. That load is way too hot and brass would not last. I know, been there done that. But that isn't fast by any means for that load, it's about right. My current load is 42.5gr with the ELDMs and they run around 2836 out of a Proof truck axle and others run about that speed too with other barrel manufacturers.

What barrel length? I guess I don’t have a fast barrel then.. and unfortunately brass life is gonna have to be a loss cuz my gun don’t group at 2836…

24" I'm just saying just to drop it down a little bit. If the barrel allows, the absolute highest load would right around 42.3-42.8 for that combo. I use to run that load you have way back in the day and yes, it will shoot, but it would eat up brass too and it wouldn't get clickers or anything. If you want speed swap over to RL16 or 17. You can get 2900+ with those powders. I haven't use it in a while since RL16 is basically impossible to get and don't feel like using up my stash yet when I have a lot of H4350.

I’ve been running R16 for a long time… too dirty and takes up case capacity compare to H4350. Speed was okay but without compressed load making it very hard to seat, let alone absolutely impossible to get them. So I switched back. Hopefully they will make
R16 SC. I haven’t tried R17 but the burn chart shows it’s slower than H4350 so I’m not sure how that can stack over H4350 with better stability.
