I worked with children's groups for twenty years in various programs. I had three sayings that were taught until they knew them.
1. Don't ask But What If? That's a never ending series of But What If's.
2. Life is not "Fair"
3. No one cares except your mom. Deal with it.

In ancient Sparta, young infantry recruits from the ages of 7-10, after a phase of initial training, would be sent into town with nothing except the clothes on their backs for a year. They were to sustain themselves in any means possible. If they were caught stealing food, the punishment would be for getting caught. The goal is to make these young soldiers use their brains to full capacity and use pragmatism and ingenious thinking to survive in a city utterly alien to their experience thus far. The helmet, armor, sword, and shield were EARNED items only after years of physical and mental trials that would obliterate a modern youngster. Moral of the story for today's youth: Your brain is the MOST powerful weapon you have. Everything comes from it. Use it.

Lived there for over a year a long(ish) time ago. Met my wife. Including visits spent six July 4ths in that town. Nice parade, went around the block 3 times. Never saw it get warmer than 127*.

Friend from the Ville tore off a piece in the back wagon, said splinters were bad.

Thank you,
