Israel gets 3.8 billion a year in US "aid" in a normal year. But the deal is they have to spend it on US manufactured weapons. They could of bought kit but they bought high tech ordnance and delivery systems. They can make their own kit on the cheap no need to spend their allowance on that. I am suprised they havnt made enough helmets and vests. I guess they have never mobilized all the reserves at once in recent times.
Those are scams and they are fucking disgusting people worthy of a painful death.
Christian and Jew alliance is one or a name close to that.

You had me until you got to the type 38, it falls apart there. You quote some quite famous internet myths around the "dust cover" that are just flat wrong.
Before I get rolling I will admit it had been a day or two between the end of WWII and the late 70's. So who knows how the weapons got stored. We can make a good guess however, as the USSR and the chicoms are buddy buddy at the time we could assume the same storage methods.
Lets get started.
The dust cover worked quite well, and it did not rattle. They are SN# matched to the bolt and the bolt matched to the rifle. Where the majority of this "loose" myth comes from is after the war when GI's picked a rifle to send home out of a pile of thousands, then picked a bolt out of another pile of thousands, and IF they wanted a dust cover there is yet another pile. The mix matched bits are going to be sloppy. However even the mix matched examples had zero effect on loading.
Type 38 was a fairly dead rifle by the time of the end of WWII, the type 99 was what was being moved to. The 6.5 Jap just did not have the punch required for jungle fighting. It also was not the standard caliber across the heavy MG's. Some of the light MG's used the 6.5 and some even used the rounds still in the stripper clips, actually kinda cool. But they learned fairly early on that the 6.5 was not going to cut it. Italy learned the same thing around 6.5 but did not have the capacity to move everything over to their 30, so it stuck. The 7.7 Jap was on ball park with both the 303 and 3006.
As china was a pretty hot area they did get "new" weapons like the 99, the back water areas like Korea and Vietnam got the 6.5. All of those areas are in the same ballpark so I guess some deals could be made, who knows perhaps the next cache to hit the surplus community will be from the far east and not Africa like with Royal Tiger and their last batch of....stuff I guess I will say.
I should post up some photos of my 99, it is complete with the AA sights, mono pod (I have a funny story around that and a CMP match) dust cover (not matching) and intact mum. It really is a nice rifle, I would put it on par with something like a 1903 or british enfield. Kinda long however, and the bayonet is even longer...I have some photos floating around somewhere.
But if you skip all that babble, your comments on the Japanese rifles are off base.
I have said this for a while. It is one thing to have a "cool" looking airplane, ship, rifle....whatever and show it off at a show. It is very different when you get to the end of the supply chain.
This is one thing "the west" has that the Russians or Chinese have zero clue about. How to keep things going a long way from home. And that is no small task.
I doubt we would go nuke first, as I think we could, at least for the time being, take care of things in other ways. The other guys not so much, and if they fear loss that would remove them from power, yea the red button could very easy be pressed.
Keep in mind, a political leader losing power and the military losing power is different.
A politician might say “ let it fly “ but the folks down the military chain will have to execute.
I’m not saying that it can’t happen but one of those folks in the chain might have a different opinion.

You have some excellent points there. And no I certainly did not skip any of it. I literally live and breathe historical weapons tech discussions.
Even with the dust cover issue aside though, bolt action rifles of the 1890s-1940s are still noisy to a degree. The different models produce distinct sounds when being operated that trained observers can tell what types of rifles are being used. And when you are using bolt actions like the PLA was using in the early phase of Vietnam facing off against an entire enemy army that is pretty much a special operations force having been hardened in 10 years of guerrilla warfare less than 6 years prior, that is absolutely bad news, add in to the fact that much of the Viets are using M16s and AKs.
The 'Type-38' or san ba si, is a general term in China that is used to describe all variants of Japanese infantry rifles as at one point, the country had been flooded with such a vast quantity of them that farmers carrying rice to markets were using them as shoulder poles for load balancing up to four 30lb sacks trekking on foot for miles. The 99, or jiou jiou si, referred to the squad light machine gun, a vast quantity which are also present, some in national storage, and a much larger number in civilian hands and never turned in. There are still Type 38s, 99s, both rifles and LMGs, and 44s stored in arsenals all over the country at this moment as they are constantly being used for movie and epic TV series production projects.
Like you said in another post, logistics failures are a common problem in modern armies outside of the western sphere and logistics is precisely what fucked up the PLA so horrifically in the 1978-81 Sino-Viet War. An entire cadre of senior PLA officers were virtually wiped out by Beijing central leadership in the wake of the war. Some serving excruciating prison sentences, others banished far out to the penal colonies in Xinjiang and Tibet, put to work on grueling railroad and road construction projects high in the mountains. And others stripped of all their honors and their names disgraced. If they had been featured in patriotic murals, their individual depictions were powerwashed out of these pictures. Even to this day, online discussions of the Sino-Viet War is still considered a sensitive topic because it exposed the PRC military infrastructure's woeful lack of preparations and organizing for a large scale peer war and on sites like the Sino Defence Forum and it's sister board the Chinese Military Forum, threads started about the war gets locked very quickly by moderators or heavily edited to censor out any posts that talk about the logistics and communications failures which had led to such staggering Chinese losses in the conflict.
On a side note, the regional politics of the area at the time of the war are also far more complicated. The war itself stemmed from a devastating and fateful decision that Mao Zedong had made in 1974, when he was still Chairman despite suffering from advanced dementia, a decision that will forever stain the reputation of the PRC. During that time, the murderous Khmer Rouge regime of Pol Pot in Cambodia had exploded into power and the PRC made the fateful choice to side with the Khmer Rouge and provide them with materiel aid. Mao Zedong went even as far as to try to shame his contemporary and ally Vo Nguyen Giap of Vietnam for not supporting the Khmer Rouge and called him a 'reactionary'. And you can imagine how pissed Giap got when that happened. For all their claims of being the "first and foremost leader of military intelligence", the PRC should have, and would have known of the Khmer Rouge's incredibly bloody purge of it's civilian population shortly after Pol Pot's forces seized the Cambodian capital, but they continued to double down and provide aid to the Khmer Rouge. In 1975, the Vietnamese army invaded Cambodia and toppled the Khmer Rouge regime, to the further dismay of PRC officials who had military and industrial investments in Cambodia already underway. The USSR and China had never been on friendly terms before and the Khmer Rouge saga further drove the wedge between Chinese and Russian diplomacy. Chinese ultranationalists refer to Russians as laomaozhi, or "perpetually drunken ape-men", and to this day, they still argue that China should re-fulfill it's Qing Dynasty era manifest destiny to colonize all of Siberia, which they did partially during the reign of the Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong. A series of lightning wars also broke out between the USSR and the PRC in the 1950s over a chain of disputed islands, leading to hundreds of casualties on both sides. So naturally, when Vietnam's Vo Nguyen Giap openly declared China as it's main opponent in 1975 in the wake of the Khmer Rouge disaster, the USSR decisively sided with the Vietnamese. And in 1976 when Deng Xiaoping replaced the deceased Mao Zedong as chairman and began to institute the economic reforms that led China out of the collectivist period and into the modern capitalist era, Leonid Brezhnev immediately seized the chance to label the PRC as the 'newest reactionary enemy and threat to the Comintern network' and provided large quantities of military aid to Vietnam, knowing that a shooting war between the two would be inevitable.

just an aside on the arisaka. back in 60s or so most military actions were tested to destruction. the arisaka was shown to be the strongest of all. as i remember the story,a case was filled with red dot,a bullet placed and jammed into the lands,tied to a tree and set off with a long cord. it bulged but didn't rupture.
I remember reading about those tests. But I have also read that there are some Arisakas that were parade guns that were not suitable for use but had made it into the market. Dunno about how many or if any have failed. Maybe someone here can add some better information that I have - or correct my error.

There are a bunch of very late-war Arisaka Type 99s which were unofficially referred to as the "last ditch" rifles, even though the IJA leadership did not designate any differences in batch. By late 1944, Allied bombing runs of the Japanese home islands have laid waste to much of their war industry infrastructure. That is coupled with what was going on in China by that time, as the three major Communist partisan armies, the 8th Route Army of the northeast, led by General Zhu De, the 1st Route Army of Manchuria, led by General Peng Dehuai, and the New Fourth Army of Anhui and Huabei, led by Commissar Chen Geng, had unified, forming a three sided encirclement trap against almost the entire bulk of the Japanese holdings in the north, and launching successful wide scale conventional assaults that increasingly strangled Japanese supply lines and key cities that were essential for the occupation to continue. Campaigns like the Chengde and Heilongjiang/Mukden offensives inflicted hundreds of thousands of casualties on the IJA and for the IJA by 1944, the loss of manpower on such a level could not be replaced in time for a defense of the home islands against a potential Allied landing. Up to 20,000 to 100,000 of the "last ditch" Type 99 rifles were built in ad hoc foundries that could be cobbled together from factories that had been pulverized by bombs. Most of them were issued to the newly formed Home Island Civil Defense Guard, the Japanese equivalent of the German Volkssturm where all citizens above the age of 6 were required upon the penalty of death to join. A select few Type 99 rifles from the very final months were not even functional due to the supply of lockwork parts having finally been exhausted. These were affixed with bayonets and were handed out for use as pikes, or bundled with grenades as "pole mines" for suicide runs against Allied tanks.
The differences in construction quality between the regular Type 99 and the functional and shootable "last ditch" 99s are described below. There are many rumors going around that at least some, if not most of these last ditch rifles are made with contaminated and inferior quality steel, as with the destruction of the main factories, ad hoc plants set up in literally still-smoldering cities would not have been able to produce steel of desired quality. Most of them are never even fired, as Japan's surrender came very quickly after they were made and distributed, so the exact quality of these particular rifles may never be known, unless a testing facility fires them using remote controlled equipment. These rifles had been built under the full realization and acceptance that their operators will not be alive anymore after the firing of more than a few rounds.

I tried like hell to be a Army Ranger when I was younger... they wouldn't let me in with my sketchy outlaw past. As someone said earlier in this thread though, in a world war-draft scenario, I imagine thats one of the first things that'll go out the window. You'd think some high speed SOB's like the Rangers would somewhat want us semi-tards who aint very risk-averse...
