I do not think anyone should get student loan forgiveness. Why should my tax dollars bail out someone who 1. probably picked a worthless major, 2. probably took more years than necessary to earn it, 3. college is an investment in one's self and a life lesson in decision making. Again why should I and others pay for or bail out someone who made a bad decision?

This should be the attitude of every person that went to work and struggled with life ,bills, working two or more jobs Living below your means
and paying back what you owe.
Neither should be on the radar of possility.

I'll agree with you about cutting foreign aid and welfare. However, when someone borrows money then they need to do the responsible thing and pay it back like the rest of us working people. Paying off student loans is no different than foreign aid or welfare, ALL needs to end,.

I have a BSEE, and had student loans because my parents didnt have the $$. The loans were all in my name. Deferred until 6mo after I graduated. Super low interest at the time, 1.9%. Made payments of 200 per month for like 25yrs lol. I could have paid it off sooner but it was autopay and tbh I sort of just forgot about it, other than tax time to take the interest deductions.
I cannot understand the student loan forgiveness, but not because I paid mine off over time as I promised when I signed the dotted line and "want mine back".
My issue is that its blatant vote buying, its crazy absurd. And the snowball effect will keep piling up with each president or candidate offering more and more, its just not sustainable at best, and at worst,... probably illegal.

I agree. I'm paying now. Last year we co-signed our daughters student loans and still got a shit rate of 10%'ish and my wife and I both are 800+ credit scores with very little debt. We've been making heavy payments to pay it off quick. This year she's staying in the campus Catholic organizations house with her 2 best friends, rent is only $400/mo, and she's budgeted $250/month for food. She's paying all her living and food expenses, which has dropped her tuition cost to about $3500/semester. Rather than take a loan on that at 12.6% (this years rate), the school will let us pay them direct over the period of the semester at 1.5% "financing fee". We're just gonna do that, and then she'll make student loan payments back to us after she graduates, but at a 0% interest rate, and a strong possibility that she'll likely receive a mommy/daddy loan forgiveness program, lol. At the end of it, she'll only have somewhere in the neighborhood of about $15k of "student loans" in her next 2 years. The whole loan forgiveness shit irritates me, but I have no say, no control, they're gonna do what they're gonna do. There's enough bullshit in the world to piss me off, I don't need yet another thing.

Public colleges really should not be taxpayer funded. Colleges need to compete in the private sector where price AND quality determine the amount of tuition the customer is willing to pay. Right now we have neither reasonable price nor quality of instruction.
Yes, she could have gotten them paid off if we moved to certain rural areas but we were already established where we are and she planned to continue with the same company after graduation(and after some maternity leave)
Since we are talking about paying off student loans, why not provide a monthly check to people that feel like they can’t work everyday like us commoners. We could call it something very pleasant sounding. Maybe a name like “welfare” or something like that. It could be funded by us commoners that are working and contributing to society. Just pull a percentage off each of our checks and it can help pay for it. Just an idea…
