A&D FX Scale Deal

@padom I can't thank you enough for posting the setting for the fx 300iN scale. I picked one up the other day and I couldn't find any information on how to get it to read in grains. Spent hours on hold with text support (no one would answer), yada yada yada. The information you posted got me up an running in minutes. Again really appreciate you posting this info.

I owe him a thanks as well. Thanks @padom.. Turns out the addendum sheet was in my box but, I skipped right over it like a kid at Christmas with instructions to his new toy.

Thanks for the heads up about these scales!! I just picked this one up. I had to reset it to read in 'grains' and after 3 tries I got it right. I picked up a breeze shield on Amazon for $65 shipped.

I really like the Ingenuity Precision setup but the Super Trickler seems like a solid unit as well.

I picked up a FX-300in and I am having trouble getting the mode to switch based on the previously posted instructions. Am I missing something?

Just because it’s what I experienced. Found a fx300i on fb marketplace for 300 bucks on the other side of the state and had a buddy pick it up for me. He experienced the same issue and ended up calling A&D and they walked him through it. Might give it a try.

I got mine here because I needed a breeze shield as well and they had them. I know you can spend a fortune on weights but it’s close enough for me.

Just fyi, the wind screen is NOT worth $65 😂🤣... It about $3 with of plastic...

It seems like a set of cheap powder scoops and the IP trickler setup is a great way to proceed, with the caveat that I know IP is supposed to be coming out with a full-on system “soon.”

What’s needed to get the IP up and running, other than this scale and the powder meter with motor?

I'm torn between the IP and Super Trickler.

I know it's not what you asked for, but the Super Trickler can be added to the scale. I just wanted to give options.

Now you get the proper electronics-only package from paul, it's like $300-ish from IP + the cost of a standalone IP. Deails upthread.

ETA: Thanks for the redirect @ma smith I found this post that laid it out for me. Sounds like I need the Ingenuity Trickler, with electronics, cable, and new power supply, apparently about $80. This, plus some sort of bulk powder delivery such as the Lee $30 option, should get me up and running. I might also need a platen and cup, we'll see.

I ordered a scale, electronics and trickler. Had a receipt and shipping order in a few hours. I needed an upgraded system now so I opted to get everything currently available from IG and just use a cheap Lee powder measure to do dumps within a couple grains of final loads. Maybe I will get...

If it won't read and won't calibrate, very good chance it was damaged in shipping. Would not be the first time an A&D has been damaged by rough handling in transit, another member had it happen a couple months ago buying a new one from a dealer.

I purchased a used FX-300IN NTEP. As others have mentioned, it’s missing:

1. Breeze Break

2. Pan Support Plate (I believe this is also called the “platen”)

3. Powder Adapter

4. Missing Screw (bottom-left screw of the metal plate on back of scale)

5. 100g calibration weight

For (1) Breeze Break looks like I can find one pretty easily. For (2) it looks like A419 sells a replacement, or the IP or ST use their own. For (3) would this power adaptor work: https://a.co/d/fTYP57c (I think @NiteQwill indicated it would in a previous post?) (4) Does anyone know replacement screw size? (5) Does anyone have a calibration weight they would recommend? (Amazon ones seems sketchy?)

Lastly, what system should I get if I want to start hand loading this summer?

(A) Manual+IP Trickler ($435) (I think @NiteQwill said ATV3 Controller/Electronics ($60) + IP Trickler ($375))

(B) ATV4 ($480+Tariff?)

(C) Supertrickler ($840-ish?)

(D) IP Full System ($1090 - Full System + A&D Draft Shield

I’m also up for just manually doing it, but would prefer an automated system. I just don’t know all the nuances of this stuff yet as a newbie!

I went round and round on this, and discovered a few things with help from @vh20. The Ingenuity trickler needs a few things to work with the A&D scales:

Autotrickler motor cable:



The scale itself needs the platen, and now that Ingenuity has changed their trickler design, you're gonna need a breeze shield with the hole in the top (watch Ingenuity's video on the trickler product page). The trickler comes with the motor, so that should be taken care of.

My plan is to save like a grand and just use a $30 Lee powder dispenser for the bulk drop, then trickle up on the scale. Hope that helps!
