New to the AI models, got my first this week. I believe it's an AX model maybe circa 2012-2014 based on my google searches? It is chambered in 308, however I really was looking for one in 300WM... Didnt have much of a choice, got it in a trade.

Is it a reasonable task to change the barrel / bolt to 300WM or is it cost prohibitive / easier to just trade it towards a 300WM? I see the flat part on the barrel that I assume is for a wrench. Must be done by an AI armorer? Does the bolt also have to be replaced? Mags too?

As sated that’s a short action so 300 WM is a no go

You also would need an action wrench to swap the barrel on that rifle as it’s pre quickloc which are on the 2014 and newer models

You can have the bolt machined for WSM cartridges. I have a spare bolt at Black Canyon Customs currently. Fritz is opening the head and spinning up a 300 WSM barrel

But that opens up new cans of worms in regards to mag length issues with high BC bullets compare to a long action

Unfortunately those rifles aren’t worth a lot on the used market because they don’t have the quickloc and utilize the old buttstock

I think @MK20 was just pointing out that the trajectory of a 6.5 Creedmoor is similar to a 300 Win Mag. I know it's hard to believe but it's true. However if the OP is wanting more energy down range then something like a 300 Win Mag is needed.

How? It shoots the same bc bullet 200-300 faster. Unless you’re talking about factory ammo from 20 years ago.
