Slugging barrels......Don't F'in do things like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Frank, isn't the standard Bartlien warranty for a 284 1000 rounds before accuracy falls off or
4 strokes with a steel pin whichever comes first?

Post the link text to the video if you cant get it to link.

The owner of the rifle felt it wasn’t shooting good enough. He thinks the steel isn’t good. So, he decided to make his own bushing and put it on a cleaning rod and push it down the bore to check the barrel. He feels there are tight spots in it. I’ll guarantee you that he scored the tops of the lands. Barrel is guaranteed junk now.
Any lint, dirt, carbon particles etc.... will get forced between the slug and the bore and your going to do damage. Worse yet.... a steel bushing was made and to what spec it was made to and your pushing it down the bore. Nothing but a disaster here.

Nothing in his email about how he’s cleaning it, how many rounds on it… how it’s shooting etc… not to mention what the diameter/spec he made his custom steel bushing to in order to check the bore.

Yes.... No warranty being given.

I'm refraining from using very choice words right now!

Haven’t seen the video, so I’ll play the uninformed Devil’s Advocate for a moment.

Is what he did equivalent to testing the bore with a crude pin gauge, or was he ramming it down with force?

There are days when I am glad I’m dumb enough that doing something like that wouldn’t have occurred to me.

The downside is that it has doomed me to being a sales rep my entire career. You know, the guys that stand around scratching their heads at production, accounting, and upper management?

Makes you wonder which one that guy was…….🤣

Definitely upper managment.

Raising Frank's blood pressure?

No shit!

It just amazes me what people do to stuff. Not just guns in this case.

If your having a problem... issue... call first before you do stuff to the point of where your at which is beyond the point of no return. Then the guy expects the manufacturer to give you a free replacement and in a lot of cases... guys get mad when you say no.

Come on.

Tell us what the guy did, if you can’t post the video.

Did he hammer it in? 🤣

My impression from the op was he was trying to prove Frank's barrel had an inconsistent bore and wanted a new barrel. @Frank Green ?
He told his gunsmith it wasn't shooting good. So he first thought of course is.... it's the barrel or bad steel.

So he decided on his own to go and slug it with a steel bushing. When he did he feels that there are tight spots in the bore. Well for starters there is no way the bushing can float on it's own. You have it attached to a cleaning rod. If your rod alignment is off just a bit... the bushing is going to drag from one side to the other etc... on top of that... what diameter is the bushing vs the bore size? Nothing but a disaster is going to happen.

I can't get the video to load. Tried several times.

Didn't hammer it in... just pushing it down the bore on the cleaning rod...

Oh and he didn't even use a cleaning rod/bore guide either! You can see the rod jerking as he's pushing and then pulling it back.

I can’t imagine the thought process that led to this idea, the belief that it would “show”, “prove”, or even illuminate anything regarding the bore diameter, or the misguided industriousness required to make this “tool”. Holy crap.

I think I have a bad barrel. 🙄
Proof 7.5tw, 22", chambered in 6-BR.
Shot from a rickety wooden bench with a tail wind.

5265 rounds on the barrel.

I demand a refund!!!!

I've been told that owning your own business and interacting with customers can be extremely rewarding...

I don't actually believe that. But it's what I've been told.
