MPA Matrix Pro II vs the Vanquish

Advice requested on last minute reconsiderations regarding the chassis selection for an MPA PMR rifle on order: Matrix Pro II vs the Vanquish.

I chose the latest iteration of the Matrix, the Pro II, but now I am thinking of changing the work order I sent to MPA to specify the Vanquish instead. Would like to know thoughts from those who have used either, and especially those who have used both.

At this point 3 considerations steer me toward the Vanquish:

1) The Vanq has a more manageable forend than the mile wide Matrix Pro II.

2) Out of the box, the Vanq has more mass in the forend. That may possibly save me from having to add additional weights out front, keeping the overall rifle weight down.

3) I like running an over the bore bipod when shooting non PRS from a bench or ELR prone, which necessitates pic rail attachment on the segments that fit onto the top of the forend of the chassis, over the barrel. That is not an
option for the segments that fit the Matrix Pro II, as far as I can tell, while it is for the Vanquish.

Thoughts, anyone? Any advice much appreciated. I will be using the rifle for some PRS along with general ELR fun time shooting. Maybe kill a deer or hog or coyote too.

I picked the vanquish over the matrix because of the forend width and the weight. I have been nothing but impressed with it.

1. More manageable how? It is thinner by .6” but that would depend on your hand size I guess. I have pretty normal sized hands and have no problem grabbing the Matrix Pro or Pro II.

2. Wouldn’t that “more mass” be more weight but in the stock and not being added? If you don’t have to add weights to balance then it means the forend is already heavier so the weight will be similar. It won’t keep the overall rifle weight down. Will be the same but just no added weights.

3. There is an option in the drop down for a picatinny rail on the NV bridge on the Matrix Pro II.

Just comes down to whichever you think you would like more. Look at the specs and go with what you think will work better for you. If you wanted lighter weight and balance then get the Comp rear on whichever you choose. It helps drop the weight needed to balance.

1. I am most concerned about whether that big honkin' Matrix Pro II forend will settle in nice and flat on a bag or will it fight back too much?

2. The weighted thing...I don't know what my thought process was at the time, but it appears to be defective. In any case, not having to buy weights would save some $.

3. Thank you for digging this up! So pic on the NV bridge is indeed available for both.

I am sure either one will be just fine.

Well considering people add plates to make the forend wider to sit on a bag I am sure the .6” difference between the two forend won’t make much difference. I know I can drop my Pro/Pro II on a bag and they sit there just fine.

This is my .22 with a Pro II and a 24” 1.2” straight barrel and the lightweight butt and it balances perfectly without any weights upfront. Definitely get the lightweight butt if you want to keep it a little lighter and don’t want to add weights no matter which you get.

It is the midnight bronze. I didn't want just an black chassis, I have several.
Nice, it looks good.

I just got a vanquish a little while back and love it.

Local guy to me that chambers some stuff for me is sponsored by MPA.
He switched from the pro 2 to the vanquish. Says he likes it more. I would get the vanquish. Matter of fact i will probably order a 2nd before too long.

I am not too far from getting a second vanquish. I plan to build a 25x47 as a backup gun for PRS. I was having dinner with someone from MPA when it got released which led to me ordering mine that day.
