Thread has been stagnant for a bit but figured I would shed some light in here. Was able to bring home my first piece of hardware yesterday at Fossil Pointe out in Decatur. Was a super solid day and honestly I am not sure what clicked yesterday but it honestly just felt effortless. Dope was lined up perfectly all day, had some switchy 10-15mph gust catch me off guard mid stage but was able to correct well on the clock. dropped 9 shots on the day just 4 behind the winner. Also first match with this new JK can ( I am calling it the poor mans Maverik since you can adjust the length by adding/removing baffles ) with the RecoilX brake, bought the can last Saturday and it got approved Wednesday so I only had 2 days at home to shoot it at 50 yards but it worked great at the match. This is a huge confidence boost going into the 2 day Scorcher match here in a couple weeks in Little Rock. Hope to see some of you guys out there!
Congrats! Wish I coulda made that one.

Thank you! and you saved yourself from getting hammered by the sun all day lol. They had some tents set out for us and plenty of water though so wasn't to bad. Found it ironic that my first ever match was there back in November of 2024 and yesterday was my first time back since then and was only my 10th match ever I've shot so far. Looks like were heading in the right direction at least!

Hell yeah @zmen !!!!!!! I've been doing a ton of travel the last few months, but all that's done and back into match mode. Just gotta screw this new barrel on and see if it shoots. Congrats on the 2nd place finish, that's gotta feel good.
Thank you sir! And it felt pretty surreal. Every match feels like a foot in the right direction so far. Now if I can stay consistent. That’ll be the tricky part. Still lots to learn tho. Will you be heading to the Scorcher next weekend?

I won't make Scorcher like I thought I would, I've been taking too much time off. I'm headed to Navasota this weekend for the monthly match.

Just seeing this post... Great to see the PRS community helping and welcoming new shooters especially in North Texas! All the advice listed here is great. I recognize a few of the screen names here and all are great guys to be around.
If it hasnt been said already the best advice I feel I can give to a new shooter is slow down and process every single shot. You cant miss fast enough. Texas as a whole has 2 minute stages and thats usually more than enough time to slow down and really think about what is happening down range.

All thanks to guys like you helping put on matches around the north Texas area! But the slow down part is huge. When I first started back in November it didn't matter if I made an impact or missed I had another round in the chamber before I even had time to process what was happening down range. Now I make damn sure to slow down and try and spot everything happening down range once the trigger has been pulled and I feel like that has helped me the most being new to this sport, also it helps that just about any match you show up to in the north or even south Texas area you're gonna get some really great shooters and can just learn so much by observing them.

Back at it! Shot another match after a 2 month lay off (been fishing). The barrel is at the end of its life, or is it? Had a carbon ring that I got rid of, but I think it's creeping back. I'm just not confident with the barrel anymore, speeds are higher than expected and not very consistent. I have a CRB replacement ready to go on and I will start from scratch. I was using varget, but I'm going to switch to H4350. Still going to use the Berger 105's.
Anyhow, here's the last match. Got a zero on 1 stage. Couldn't find the right wind call (after watching it over it should have been .8) I just hunted around the target the whole time. Enjoy!
