brand new car urge

I might just be coping because I drive a Toyota.

I too drive a boring ass Toyota.

We currently have a couple of them: A trusty old 2007 Tundra 4X4 is my daily beater. We also have a 2024 Land Cruiser. Not exciting to drive but they’re robust, and easy to maintain.

My mom lives with us after my dad passed away, and she just traded her Lexus RX350 in on a 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Platinum Hybrid Max. Same T24A-FTS 2.4L I4 turbo as the Land Cruiser although they have different hybrid systems. Again fairly robust and easy to maintain. She probably would have bought another Lexus but the nearest dealer is about 5 hours away.

1965 aluminum bodied 427 Corba replica, build it yourself, simple carb., no power steering, no paint, no traction control, no windows, manual transmission, no top, no stereo, way too loud, no heater or air conditioning, bugs in your teeth, everyone hears you and looks, change you own oil, plugs, etc. Tesla for everything else. Fun per mile priceless. What ever happened to wrenching your own ride and KISS?

I’ve heard great things about all the Toyota SUV’s especially the 4Runners. A few people I know that drive Tundras both have mixed feelings as far as gas mileage and reliability is not the same compared to the SUV’s.

Last month went to look at a certified used 2022 Toyota 4Runner with 58K miles. Nice vehicle but was priced @ $50K which I thought was high considering age/miles but supposedly that’s normal as they will run for years.

I just installed my first Manthey kit in a new GT4 RS, very nice performing and looking car. But it ain’t comfortable…..it’s a little over 300k now and they just moved it into the showroom if the op is interested 😁
You work at a Porsche dealership? Manthey makes some cool stuff.

Working on the same brand since the early 90’s. Since 2002 at the dealership in Tampa, Florida.

I’m 63 and can’t wait to get out of it. Couple of years and it’s happening if I make it that long.

Hate the EV’s with a passion 😁 There’s a definite decline in almost everything related to the business.

WOW that’s a long run with one brand doesn’t seem to happen as much anymore.

The Porsche technician I use was the top technician at a large Porsche store then moved up to shop foreman. He went out on his own and I followed him to his own shop. He’s great and thriving now…always busy.

Keep a good relationship with him, this breed is dying…
If I’d started working there today I wouldn’t make it longer than a month, just to much greed from corporate and the stealership. I declined a shop foreman position many times because I don’t want to take care of the entitled babies.

The whole apprenticeship in their respective trade groups worked out definitely better in my younger years in Germany.

Don’t get me wrong, they are still building some exceptional vehicles but some bad ones as well.

The visit work shop light [lol] is lean off idle and that seems to have gone away with dry gas and a change in gas stations if i wrote it down right 2179 . The transmission light was " emergency run " it came on during a WOT spirited street race but re-set after a re-start and is not in the history codes but according to google there is no fix for it 7 speed auto . With the light off and me not playing on the street its giving room/time to get another car 09 987.2 61k on it . I have not gone WOT on the shifts since

Which particular models are more problematic than others?
EV’s first, then hybrids ( except 918). Next are some newer Panamera and cayenne models. Sports cars are still the best choice I’d say, some 2016 and up GT3’s have lifter issues ( miss fires at high revs ) usually engine replacement due to metal particles in the engine oil. Macan transmission failure, not to often but pricey if it happens.

I believe that was on the non “G” motors if that’s the correct nomenclature mostly on the first run of 2015 GT3’s?

Well the ct4v blackwing sat on the dealers floor with their 10 grand add on for a month they agreed to drop it but would only give me 8 grand for my porsche and no budge on the MSRP ....i walked out . The car had scuff marks ,scratches , polishing swirls ,dirt , maybe water spots and a BRUTAL case of orange peel . A can of dry gas and a different gas station = no CEL on my car and no trans issues prolongs my search , so far the word order is taboo at 3 dealers [chevy/caddy/ford] .

the quest is over found an e ray 60 miles away at marianna chevy ,they gave me almost double on the porsche of what caddy offered and came down on the msrp . THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE View attachment 8747002

Love the parking guides! :ROFLMAO:

Or are they to measure the wheelbase, or just for scale…ya know, like a banana? ;)

Sick. How do you like it?
3 days and 120 miles so far gadda wait till 500 before going WOT but so far i scared away a ferrari and my neighbor's 25 stingray .....feels good returning to my corvette roots ......its way tech beyond me wife has been setting a few things up . They do not come with a paper owners manual so i am waiting for one i ordered .....took me a day and a half to get the engine hatch up

Nice ride, hate that 500 mile “limited” shit, but guess it’s best for the car. My Charger Daytona 392 was just screaming for that 501st mileView attachment 8747245
I visited our local dodge dealer to see what they had for my wants .....sadly they were a joke . location location location this area panama city beach is pickup truck/suv king .

Im the opposite for ring seating in particular. 4-5 heat cycles and rings are seated so they need a little pressure and a some vacuum. Also good luck on the brake burnishing procedure... its a beast on the carbon brakes.

You arent going to upset that car by getting into the power with the front motors and stability control fully on. The alignment is also VERY VERY conservative to give a push vs. over steer. I auto-x'd mine back in June and it was borderline dangerous the push it had with the factory alignment... and we were driving it in track mode with everything turned off so you could throttle steer a bit... was still hard to get the back end to move.

Once you start pushing that car a bit you will see what I am talking about.

nothing is actually limited for the first 500 miles... trust me...

Well supposedly 1st and 2nd have a little bit of torque limiting, but the car will go right past the "fake" redline during break in up to real red line. In auto mode it will shift at the lowered redline.
This car wouldn’t let me select sport mode, nor activate the paddles , let me use launch mode and quite a few other options

the challenger is fuggly imho
I test drove a challenger hellcat. Only fun thing about it was the red key, but it road walked like crazy. I wish more companies would get back to the 6 speed manual, at least as an option.

When I picked up my C6, I almost knew immediately it should have been a manual. It was still fun, but could have been more fun I guess

I was 31 when I bought my C6, and coming out of a 6 speed mustang. These days, I’m with you and the only manual tranny car I have in the fleet is the 66 Bug.

The paddle setups were more than enough for me to get rowdy if I wanted to. My knees and ankles are shit now, so less movement is mo better

Oh i still can speed shift [ WOT no lift shifts ] AND i can still do it on a harley if i really have to , i rarely use the paddles too when i do its usually because i am too lazy to use the brakes .

Speed shifting was always fun on the crotch rockets. I always loved the ideer if an air shifter on a sport bike

Some days I miss those things and some days I could care less. The wiff asked if I ever thought about another motorcycle the other day and I told her I’d only ever get a Ducati Hypermotard.

I have the itch for a C8, just can’t talk myself into it. I’d have to sell my other two beaters to justify a new car.
