Ok,
I'm sure someone is going to be like use the search function, and all that.

What I need is a quick break down of the f class classifications. What Am i allowed to shoot in what class and do they shoot all the classes at every F class shoot. Does it matter if you have a brake on you rifle. I'm looking into shooting in some match of this type I just would like to know what i need to start looking at based on the rifles I already own. Thanks

Re: Definitions Please

F-Open
Any caliber less than .338 (I think on the .338)
Max weight of 22 lbs
Forend must be less 76mm or less
Most often shot off a front rest, but you can use a bipod if you prefer.
No one piece rests.
Rear sand bag is fine

F-T/R
.308 or .223 only
Max weight of 18.18 lbs (including scope and bipod)
Must be shot off a bipod
Rear sand bag is fine

No brakes allowed in F, in any class, although at some club matches they are allowed if you agree to not have your scores submitted to the NRA, or forgo any prize winnings.

F-Open and F-T/R are shot simultaneously at matches, often along side sling shooters as well.

Re: Definitions Please

The maximum bore diameter for F-Open is .35 caliber, however, some clubs have further restrictions on caliber. You have to fire the rifle from the shoulder and no rail guns or positive mechanical methods of returning to point of aim are permitted.

In F-T/R the caliber is pure .308 or .223, no AI stuff allowed.

No brake is allowed in NRA competition and your fellow competitors would not take kindly to you using a brake on the line. I know I would not put up with it.

Re: Definitions Please

Just out of curiosity, do f-class shooters only usually shoot the longer range shots? I know that sling shooters often shoot at shorter distances than 600 and 1000. What's the norm for that?

I have shot one f-class match but I'm not familiar with what F-classers normally do at across the course type matches.

Re: Definitions Please

F-Class is not normally shot alongside XTC matches, it is normally shot alongside Palma or prone matches, and also alongside at Fullbore matches.

There are 300 yard matches, there are 300, 500, 600 yard midrange matches, there are Palma format 800, 900, 1k, and then strictly at 1k.

In Fullbore like SOA its 300, 500, 600, 900, or 300, 500, 600, and 1k all in the same day.

Just depends on the club and match.

Re: Definitions Please

F Class is not included in across-the-course.

F class is shot in the all-prone highpower matches, and can be Mid Range at 300, 500 or 600 (or 300 500 and 600), or Long Range - 800, 900 or 1000 (or 800, 900, and 1000). A lot depends on what the individual Club has for ranges.

Re: Definitions Please

Thanks guys that pretty much cleared up what i need to know. I'll just have to get a thread protector for my 308 and I should be good to go. I wouldn't want to hurt Denny's feelings, since he wouldn't put up with that. I have a 260 also so it sounds like I would be set to shoot either one
