I load for my son's RR, I never crimp, crimps are for lever action tubular magazines.

Re: .223 crimp

If loading for competition in my match service rifles, no, never. I shoot the Sierra 77 Match King loaded to mag length (OAL <= 2.260") at 200-300 yards in highpower comp, and never ever crimp. I've had some success, and know many even more successful who also never crimp.

223 is taper crimp only, never roll crimp, and if there is no cannelure, the only possible crimp is with the Lee FCD.

For machine gun plinking ammo, basically M193 and M855 ball repros from cheap pulled components, I do use the Lee FCD for a light taper crimp. Never tested accuracy too closely, just not interested with these bullets, and I suspect it would be a waste of time.

This is all in AR15/M16. HTH YMMV
