i actually inherited this rifle from my great grandfather.I know its worth nothing great but it has some value in the beholder.

I was prep-ing the barrel for a re blue and noticed a hair line crack in the barrel and a bulge. (that's why i cant kill anything further than 30 yards)

anyhow i have never changed a barrel on a rifle before so here we go...

-can i get a barrel for this rifle, preferably new.
-where can i get it?
-will just any mossburg .22 barrel thread in?
_can i easily install the new barrel or should i take it to a gun smith?

any other info would be great. thanks

Since the rifle has some personal history for you, it always has value. The truth is, however that by the time you repair that rifle, you will have WAY more it it than it's worth.

Don't get me wrong, I have one exactly like it and I like them but they are not high Dollar guns and it would be a tough call to put much money into it. If you decide to repair it, the barrel replacement is a job for a pro.

I have an old single barrel H&R shotgun that I hunted with as a young man. It has some safety issues so I just propped it in a corner and retired it. I still smile when I see it as I remember the good times we had together. It's retired and so am I. I keep it because I like it and that's OK.
