What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I have the Yankee Hill Phantom and like it. But i put on the JP Bennie Cooley Signature Series on my .308 and LOVE it. so i may put 1 on the .223.

No regrets! </div></div>Those are to pretty different muzzle devices. I have a PWS and my friend has a surefire. They both handle recoil and muzzle climb about the same but the surefire is worse at hiding flash, I mean its like a flame thrower. Both are extremely loud, even on a 16 inch barrel. I wish I could try out the battlecomp.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I have a JP brake, PWS FSC5556, and two Rainier Mini-comps. All three have worked well for me, but not so much for the guys on my left and right.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I have a pws fsc556 on my lmt and an AR performance MCD on my 6.8.

The pws is loud and annoys people next to me at the range. One family would wait for me to finish before they would step up to the line.... It's not like its a .50bmg though

The MCD does well on the 6.8 and it's not as annoying. It has ports that can be closed on the sides and top so you can tune it to keep the muzzle recoiling the the way you want it.

My brother has a SJC Titan on a 16 inch barrel. It is stupid loud and makes you feel like you gave a concussion after shooting next to him.

Yankee hill phantom when shooting targets and a smith vortex when hunting at night. the vortex kills the flash better so follow up shots are no prob. The phantom has less recoil more flash and more noise.

Without a doubt, the best recoil reduction comp i have ever had. it doesn’t add excess wait either. its a bit spendy, but its totally worth it!

+1

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

PWS on my AP4 .308 does a fantastic job at keeping recoil down and the muzzle from jumping. It is amazing how much faster my follow-up shots are now that I have this brake.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

This may sound like a stupid question but just out of curiosity, do any of the mentioned comps in this thread perform differently with a piston rifle like an LWRC? Does the extra pressure out the front affect the blow back more than a GI system or does it not really matter?

Seems to me it would be a bit more stronger out of the front but I've not used one. If so which one would be the better choice?

I have a piston rifle (my first one, all GI prior) which I was considering putting one on. Thanks

Call JP and order a LMOS, Low Mass Operating System. It is a system more than anything, adjustable gas block, low mass bolt carrier, low mass buffer, extra power spring.

Once youve ordered the stuff from JP call Chris Patty at CPWSA and tell him that you need an SJC Titan brake.

Pull your flash hider currently in use, pull gas block, install JO block, install Titan brake. Pull bolt out of standard bolt carrier and install bolt in JP low mass carrier, pull standard buffer and spring and install JP buffer and extra power spring.

Now go to range and find the shittiest ammo that you plan to shoot. Adjust gas block to where shittiest ammo still runs in gun and call it a day.

You will thank me later. </div></div>

Well said

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15

the recoiling mass is linear and if you one way or another, get everything in line, there is no muzzle rise. many shooters have too much contact at the toe of the stock and it becomes a fulcrum causing the muzzle to rise.

If the recoil is just too much.... nm

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15

The big question you have to answer is what you plan on doing with this rifle. I you are planning on using this for competition only, any one of the brakes mentioned will do the job, some better than others. Just like with anything, there are tradeoff's. If you want zero muzzle rise, you also get extreme muzzle flash and extremely noise. No one will want to shoot near you, although that might be a good thing! If you want a defensive rifle, I would not want those on the end of my stick. A battle comp is a great compromise. Little muzzle rise and not quite as nice as an A2 for flash, but pretty good. Triple Tap would be nice fit also, but now your almost spending gun money on the last 2 inches of your gun. If you got the coin go for it. So figure out what direction you want to head with your gun, and start looking at those options.
