Guys...have seen a few pics of AR's with fixed front sights and low power scopes (S&B/SS, etc.) mounted on the top rail but mostly pics of scopes mounted on rifles with no fsb up front.

Is this problematic? Does the fsb get in the way of the sight picture through the scope to any noticable degree? Just asking as I've got the SWFA SS package deal on order & got to thinking about mounting the new 1-6 SS HD on my 6920. Will be using a GG&G cantilevered 1 piece/quick detach mount if that helps in answering the question(s).

Many thanks!

Yes it will be visible at low power, it will turn into a fuzzy mass and then pretty much completely disappear before you get to 3x. I'm not sure on that mount but if the center of the reticle is over the sight it will still usable at all powers. I would not reccomend the combination if there is any other option, but it won't be completely useless.

Go for it, Beef is right about low power and it being visible but if it comes close to co-witnessing with the FSB you'll be good to go.

anything abouve 3 and going up from there you'll never notice the thing.

I got one of those scopes too...any idea on when they are going to ship?

After 4x it's no issue if you want it to work. Another, great option is to dremmel the front sight off, keep base for gas block and get flip up. I have friends that take this approach because they feel that's the best low pro gas block in you can have. It works great. It takes an hour or so, but it's perfect.

I have seen / shot multiple guns done like ths.

As others have stated you wont see the sight at all at higher magnifications. I ran a similar setup for a short amount of time before eventually replacing the gas block completely for a low profile and a longer handguard.

I had a problem with reflection off the front sight post if the sun was behind me. I could still see through my scope just fine, but there was a light haze in my sight picture similar to what you might experience if the sun were in front of you.

Re: Low power scope & fixed fsb...problematic?

The FSB will be noticeable with a 1-6 at the lower powers. Even with a 4x Acog it was noticeable to me, although it was a hint of a ghost at that point.

But I say go ahead and get the scope you want on there. You don't have to live with the FSB forever. A low-profile gas block is only $50-$60 and easy to install. If you want to retain irons as a backup, spend a little more and get a gas block with flip-up.

I had the ss1-4 mounted with a larue and only saw the fsb 1-2x and it was not a problem at all, didnt even appear fuzzy

Re: Low power scope & fixed fsb...problematic?

Thanks for the quick replies and suggestions, guys. Will consider a replacement low-pro gas block if the FSB appears to be too much of a distraction with the new set-up. Sounds like it won't be much of an issue, however.

Chris_K...I'm looking for my two SWFA scopes to be shipped together sometime later this month according to a rep with SWFA that I spoke to maybe a couple weeks ago.

Again, thanks for all the input, gentlemen. It is appreciated.
