This question is for anyone that shoots southwest ammo out of a GAP-10. Will i notice a difference with the lapua 175 match to the standard 175 match accuracy wise? I mean as long as I do my part with good fundamentals she will shoot 1/2" moa 10 shot groups all day with Copper creek gas gun loads. I'm just looking for a little extra edge, I thought I read somewhere that lapua brass holds more powder or something. Please don't knock my grammar as i writing this on my phone.

Re: GAP-10 and southwest ammo

I know that a DPMS SASS isn't a GAP-10 by any stretch of the imagination, but for some reason, my SASS didn't like the southwest 175 match ammo from the recent group buy.

Here is the weird thing: it grouped great when I fed the gun one round at the time, but it would not eject well at all. I don't know if it was too "hot" for my gun or what. I'm talking putting bullets in the same hole kinda groups.....I just had to feed it one at the time.

The SW ammo is the only ammo that ever failed to eject in my SASS and I shot FGMM 168s, FGMM 175s, maybe 12 handloaded 168gr rounds, Hornady 168s and Winchester 180gr (hunting ammo) without a single hiccup.....ever.

Again, the stuff grouped great, so I know the ammo was fine. There was just something about it that caused my SASS not to to eject it reliably. A guy told me it could be my mag (DPMS steel mag), but I never checked another kind of mag because everything else fed so well through it.

This is not at all a knock against SW because, like I said, it grouped so well. I'd say grab 20 or 40 rounds before placing a big order like I did.

Re: GAP-10 and southwest ammo

Thanks for the input, i think i will try a box of each and maybe the 155 secnars also . Does anyone have input about the 155's? Looking at the 175 grain and 155 side by side the 155 looks longer I wont have a problem with the lands will I?

Re: GAP-10 and southwest ammo

The lapua brass will be better for reloading. I doubt you will see a difference between the two. I actually used the SW118XR (their new stuff) and did not notice any difference in accuracy from the Win brass loads. YMMV!

That seems like solid advice, I bought several hundred rounds of their 175 match bullet and have had 100% reliability in my MA TEN, which has the Fulton Armory Titan 18.5" SS barrel. It's not a GAP-10 though, so take that for what it's worth to ya.

Re: GAP-10 and southwest ammo

I shot 400 rounds of SW 155's through my GAP10 at one of Rifles Only classes. Great accuracy and no reliability issues. I wouldn't waste my money on Lapua brass on an autoloader.

Re: GAP-10 and southwest ammo

Thanks for your input, if i was reloading it might be worth it. But I'm not set up for reloading yet. They sell a cheaper kind but I'll stick to Winchester brass. I was checking out McCourt munitions, their load is pretty hot from what I've read.

Re: GAP-10 and southwest ammo

No doubt the gas gun loads rock. I have been exclusively shooting those loads , I just was curious about Southwest with them being a site sponsor. Its time to resupply seeing I just got my upper back with the new handguard and by the way awesome job . Thanks for fixing the muzzle break and the dust cover . You guys didn't have to fix it but it goes to show why you have the following you do.

Re: GAP-10 and southwest ammo

Our new 175 SMK product is probably not for the gap10. Our standard load however will perform to the maximum ability of the shooter and the system. We made our final adjustments with that load just to suite the needs of a gap10. In most gas systems the faster powders are better but the more custom rifles need more of a varget type powder. Our standard loads will perform to the manufactures guarantee on the GA website, as will our premium. We currently sponsor a shooter who has done very well with our ammo and multiple GA systems (bolt and gas).

Thanks,

SW

Re: GAP-10 and southwest ammo

When I got the ammo I was in the middle of swapping rails on it and was just finishing paying off my HDMR. I put the newer style rail on it and after shooting some with it I realized that the bayonet lug on the gas block was contacting the rail. Chopped that off and ready to try again

Is the Federal military cased 175 gr ammo recommended for the the LMT's? Or is there a better choice?
