not ready to jump into a full custom yet, so I was looking into a remington 700 sendero sfII or a kimber 8400 police tactical in 300wm. They seem to be priced about the same but the kimber looks like it already has some mods that the rem doesnt. I did a search with few returns so any suggestions are helpful! thanks,

I agree. The Remington a great gun out of the box but if you want to tweak it later on there are a lot of options. You might also want to consider Savage Arms. There rifles are very accurate straight out of the box. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

too expensive, and for hunting I think would be a bit cumbersome. But I do like them!

I'd comb the classifieds. Once in a while a smokin deal on a TRG will pop up and they blow the doors off a Remington or Kimber. Extremely popular hunting rifle, as well.

Re: which gun for 300wm?

I just did some work on a Kimber 8400 in 300WSM, hadn't even been fired, and was not very impressed. It was a pretty gun, extremely light, but I found a lot of little things that I didn't like. The internal mag box wasn't floated, but crushed in there between the bottom metal and action. One of the sling swivel studs was loose, not even hand tight. The grip cap wasn't tight, the action was not smooth at all, and I noticed the claw extractor tip was hitting the extractor cut in the barrel when you would cycle the gun empty. Maybe this one was put together on a Monday morning, just my two cents, I would go with a 700.

Rifling would be the major difference.

Barrel length: Sendero 26", 5R 24" (Used to come in 26")

Sendero's I've seen have had fluted barrels. I believe the stocks are the same, just different colors.

Re: which gun for 300wm?

Is one better than the other? It will be fitted with a thunderbeast 30-ba. I'd like the extra velocity from the 26" but if ones best I'll grab it.

Re: which gun for 300wm?

Ive seen some hit and miss reviews on the sendero, some shoot great and some shoot poorly, I may just get the 5R and call it good. Hopefully I can dig up some more accuracy reviews for both unless anyone here has any first hand experience. Thanks again,

Re: which gun for 300wm?

Sendero's have a good reputation. Not sure of pricing where you are, but I would go with the cheaper one. A 700 is a 700. I believe they are both 1/10 twist and they are both stainless. Do you want fancy fluting or fancy rifling?

They are less than 100$ apart. Just thought the 5R might have a better barrel

Re: which gun for 300wm?

my kimber 300wm police tactical or whatever is a hammer. .5moa with 190 smk or 180gr ssts
its also smooth and feels great. stock is a little light is the only thing i might change

i have seen a couple of their hunting rifles on 300 wsm, an neither would do a moa group

Re: which gun for 300wm?

I hav seen it a few times recently that they r not makin the 26 inch 5r anymore. I just bought one a couple months ago. Not sure wen it was made but my guy ordered it from his supplier. How do u determine the year it was made?

Re: which gun for 300wm?

I had an early Sendero. It was a laser without doubt! I expected 1moa groups, but it did near half that with some handloads I made up with just stuff I had on hand and little to no fancy case prep.

I am just not a magnum dood- darn things hurt too much.
