Just curious guys, Ive been getting some different answers about what freebore reamer to get. Ill be using the alpha wsm mags and shooting 168-190 berger vlds. One person i talked to today said zero and the other said .093? Kinda confused and cant find anything on the internet.

Re: 300 WSM freebore

Are you trying to choose between some off-the-shelf reamers, or reamers your smith has on hand....or are you trying to spec out a reamer to have made?

If you're speccing one out, I recommend you just load up a few dummy rounds and send them your cutter grinder.

Otherwise, you really oughtta buy a bullet comparator so you can directly measure your own dummy round.

Re: 300 WSM freebore

I got a PTG 300WSM with .210 freebore to shoot the 210gr Bergers. I like the 300WSM in a long action better so I don`t have to seat bullets deep taking up powder space and take full potential of the cartridge.

Re: 300 WSM freebore

im trying to find the best reamer to order from ptg for a new build. I already have a wsm short action and stock so im kinda limited as far as a o.a.l goes.

Re: 300 WSM freebore

If i was to checka round on a comparator how would i know what freebore i would need. I plan on shooting HSM ammo. fyi

If you zero your caliper on an empty case, then close the caliper on a loaded round (with comparator), you'll now be measuring the distance from the casemouth to the ogive.

Freebore equal to the above measurement will put that cartridge right "on" the lands.

I would call Dave at PT&G to make sure you get what you want. He will set you straight.

Re: 300 WSM freebore

found out to calculate your freebore without using a comparator. Take max clip length subtract OAL of your brass, then the nose length of the bullet you want to use and theres your freebore! Fyi i found the info on the berger web site about on the specs of a 185 hunting vld.
