Muzzle velocity for 175 grain....1000 yards

Re: Muzzle velocity for 175 grain....1000 yards

Are you shooting the 175s out of a 300 win mag or .308? 2800 is moving. I had some 175s in lapua over 43g of RL 15 and I think 2750 was the fastest I calculated them at. That was just truing my dope after hitting steel from 100-1000 yards. IRRC It was out of a 24 inch shillen barrel.

Re: Muzzle velocity for 175 grain....1000 yards

Thats Great speed for them

Im at 2725, no problems getting out to 1000-1200yds

My load is very light

43g varget
178 amax
lapua brass
28" krieger barrel

Re: Muzzle velocity for 175 grain....1000 yards

My load just chrono around 2,648 fps with 6.9 SD

Lapua Brass
CCI BR-2
43.0 Grains of Varget
COAL = 2.810"
.30 Berger 175 Grains LRBT
LB Tactical Recon 1:10tw" 24" Bull Barrel

I had try to add speed but the result was not accuracy as this load. When I add more powder, the SD & ES also increasing. So, just end up with this node.

Re: Muzzle velocity for 175 grain....1000 yards

I am using 44.2 grains of varget with LC LR brass and Wolf large rifle primers. COAL was around 2.800. The ES was I think in the 30's. I have to go back and look at the data again.

Normally put 168 SMK faster than 175 SMK around 50 fps.

Based on Factory Ammo like Federal Gold Medal

168 = 2,650 fps.
175 = 2,600 fps.

Re: Muzzle velocity for 175 grain....1000 yards

1k should be a breeze with those speeds. I shoot 175 smks with 44.5 varget and am at 2680 fps out of a GAP Crusader. If I remember correctly I think dope was 33.3 moa.

Re: Muzzle velocity for 175 grain....1000 yards

anyone pushing some 175's faster than that with a 30"+ barrel? I am looking to build a rifle that will get 2900+ out of a 308 with 175's. Barrel length is not a problem for me and in fact 33" is what I was thinking.
